Fed. Poly Ede Governing Council Holds Inaugural Meeting, Pledges to Complete abandoned developmental projects

Ede (Osun) Flowerbudnews: The Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Professor Taiwo Olaiya has assured that the Council would work toncomplete all abandoned and ongoing projects designed to boost the academic and physical development of the institution.

Prof. Taiwo stated this on Wednesday during a press briefing held at conference Hall of the school to mark the commencement of his Council’s tenure and unfold developmental agenda of the council after its first meeting.

The Council Chairman, who commended President Bola Tinubu for their appointment, said that the council would ask for assistance from the necessary authority to complete the various abandoned projects in both north and south campuses of the institution.

He noted that four schools of study: schools of Engineering, Environmental, Business Studies and Technology have moved to the main campus while the others were moving gradually.

Prof. Olaiya assured that the new Council would add value to the Institution through commitment to a purposeful and result-oriented service to the Polytechnic to enhance the status of the institution in the commity of tertiary institutions.

He disclosed that decisions taken by the Council at the meeting included the need to fill principal positions which have been vacant for some time due to the absence of governing council through a meritorious exercise and similarly, address stalled promotions.

Professor Olaiya who was a former local government chairman said that the Council would intensify collaboration with the host community, adding that the institution invest more in agricultural ventures like: food and cash crops, poultry, fish farming and cattle rearing through which the Ede community can benefit.

He berated the disruptive force of some students that led to vandalisation and damages to the school’s properties during a recent student protest, saying: that protest should carry out peacefully.

There should be peace “if everyone is toying the path of laid down rules and regulations of the school.

He said the governing council would look into various appeals by the well meaning Nigerians and students union to temper justice with mercy with the erring culprits.

The Council Chairman said that a committee had been set up to review the case to enable the institution temper justice with mercy where necessary.

Prof. Olaiya said that the council had also resolved to tap the benefits possible from the Alumni association of the institution to boost growth and excellence.

He noted that many of the products of the institution have become successful in different areas of human endeavors, disclosing that some of them have become Director Generals and Chief Executive Officers in many establishments.

He acknowledged the other members of the council and urged them to take their assignments seriously to improve the growth of the institution and make it become the envy of other higher institutions. (Flowerbudnews)
