Nigeria’s Di’Tigress on Sunday qualified for quarter-final of women’s basketball at 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gatekeepers News reports that the team defeated Canada 79-70 in its final group game at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France.
The victory earned D’Tigress their first-ever appearance in the quarter-final of Olympics basketball tournament.
It emerged as the winner of the group stage with five classification points and sit top of the pack, with France still to play Australia later in the day.
The female team which was led by Rena Wakama bounced back from losing to French in their second game after winning Australia in the first game.
There was not much difference between D’Tigress and Canadians in the first quarter that ended 18-18.
Canadians edged the team in the second quarter, and the game finished 41-37 by halftime.
Third quarter ended with the Canadians managing to get five points as Nigeria swarmed them, rounding off a historic 9-point victory.
