The Managing Director of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Engr. Praveen Chorghade, has commended the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) for the training and skill development programmes the Institute have been providing for Nigeria.

Chorghade also said that the training and skill development Programmes remained a conscious way of building the capacity of workers within the Nigerian Power Sector.

The EEDC boss made this known on Wednesday when the Director General, NAPTIN, Mr Ahmed Nagode, paid him a courtesy call at the EEDC Corporate Headquarters in Enugu.

He noted that “NAPTIN’s role is extremely important to the sector as the training they provide enables the staff to be grounded and skilled to deliver efficiently in their respective roles.”

According to him, this special input is imperative considering the very hazardous nature that characterize the work environment within the power sector.

Responding, Nagode said that the courtesy call was part of his familiarization visit to the management of EEDC, and to formally present NAPTIN’s Training Center, Oji River, to the company and to explore opportunities for collaboration.

The NAPTIN chief, who was accompanied by the Center Manager, Regional Training Center, Oji River, Engr. Justin Ezeh, along with some of the institute’s management staff, emphasized the mandate of NAPTIN to provide skilled workforce and professionals for the power sector.

He that NAPTIN achieves all these through training, research, and development in partnership with national and international public and private entities.

He further said that “the institute is positioned to be a center of excellence for human capital development in the power sector.

“I call on EEDC to leverage this to build its human capital through the hands-on training offered by NAPTIN,” he said.

Part of the discussion at the meeting centered on ways trainings could be made to be affordable and the possibility of introducing e-learning in the curriculum of NAPTIN.

The managing director of EEDC received the NAPTIN team in company of some members of his management team which included: the Deputy Managing Director, Dr. Ernest Mupwaya; and Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu.
