By Adewale Owoade
On the occasion of Children’s Day, former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise girl-child education.
Prof. Adedoja, who is celebrating his 73rd birthday today, May 27, with a focus on welfare support programs for children, also advised parents to be more vigilant in guiding their children amidst rising cases of bullying, violence, and social vices in schools.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of school dropouts in Nigeria, Prof. Adedoja emphasised the need for effective implementation of educational programs to address this issue.
“With over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, I believe the Tinubu administration’s educational programs will be crucial for these future leaders, whose only hope lies in the quality of education they receive in childhood,” he stressed.
Recently, as Director-General of the Teachers Continuous Training Institute, Biased in Cross River State, Prof. Adedoja led a delegation to the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, in Abuja to collaborate on providing high-tech digital skills to repentant “Yahoo boys” and other youths.
Aiming to maximize their talents for positive lifestyles and global certification for employability.
A renowned educationist, philanthropist, and politician, Prof. Adedoja has received numerous birthday tributes and wishes across the country.
President of the Coalition of Technocrats for Good Governance in Nigeria, Prof. Musa Ibrahim, described Prof. Adedoja as a unique personality in Nigeria worth celebrating, with a character and simplicity deserving of emulation.
He highlighted Prof. Adedoja’s impressive public service record, including his tenure as Dean of Education at Bayero University, Kano, Provost of the Federal College of Education, Special, Oyo, and Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, among other positions.
