Southwest zonal winner in the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.
FLOWERBUDNEWS reports that the prestigious recognition and accolade, which is accompanied by a $500,000 cash prize, underscored Governor Adeleke’s steadfast commitment to improving the health and well-being of the citizens.
The Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge is an initiative of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, world Health Organisation (WHO) and the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
Alhaji Adisa Tajudeen Tejuade, Chairman of the Osun State Primary Healthcare Board, who spoke on the unique achievement, attributed the Osun state’s success in the healthcare Challenge to the visionary leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Alh. Adisa commended the Governor’s administration for prioritizing the strengthening of primary healthcare systems, expanding access to healthcare services, and enhancing health outcomes.
“The governor’s unwavering focus on healthcare development has been the driving force behind our success in this challenge,” he remarked.
Under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership, the impact on the state’s healthcare sector has been transformative, he said further.
Alh. Adisa Tejuade disclosed that more than 200 healthcare centers across Osun State have been rehabilitated by the Adelke administration, thereby, significantly improving access to quality healthcare services.
‘:Additionally, the governor’s free medical outreach program has benefitted thousands of Osun residents, further demonstrating his commitment to providing healthcare for all.
””The state government’s comprehensive approach includes upgrading primary healthcare facilities, enrolling vulnerable populations in the state’s health insurance scheme, and launching innovative programs aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality rates,” the Chairman said.
Alh. Adisa Tejuade also congratulated Hon. Jola Akintola, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
He further commended Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health and Cordinator Renovation Committee of the Primary Healthcare Projects, for his dedicated leadership in implementing numerous healthcare projects across the state.

Expressing his gratitude, Chairman Tejuade praised healthcare workers, committees across the 30 local government areas, and all stakeholders involved in the state’s healthcare successes.
“This award is a resounding endorsement of our collective efforts to elevate the health and well-being of our citizens,” he said.
Additionally, he congratulated the Ministry of Health and other agencies involved in securing this honor.
In a lighthearted note, Chairman Tejuade also extended congratulations to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, the overall best-performing state in Nigeria, humourously assuring him that Osun State remained a strong contender for future awards.
The Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge is an initiative of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, world Health Organisation (WHO) and the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
The award ceremony, held in Abuja, attracted dignitaries from across the country, including governors, ministers, and healthcare experts. Other winners included Rivers State for the South-South zone and Kaduna State for the North-West zone.
The Osun State Government has pledged to reinvest the $500,000 prize into further strengthening its primary healthcare system, ensuring continuous improvement in healthcare delivery and outcomes.
