Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency has called on all well-meaning Nigerians, organisations and government at all levels to institutionalise sustainable empowerment schemes that truly impact lives.

The agency’s chairman, Muftau Open-Salawu, made the call at an empowerment programme where he distributed N1million each to five beneficiaries of his maiden “Empowerment Raffle Draw” in Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

“Things are very tough, Nigeria is not funny right now, it depends on the angle in which you’re hit by this economic situation.

“Nigeria is a very peaceful country, we’ve seen in a country where violence springs up just because of little inflation but still Nigerians absorb it, we’ve that adaptation to absorb things and change.

“The economic situation we currently have in the country, it is everybody that is feeling it, I pray people at the helm of economy should be able to think out of it.”

Beneficiaries of the five million naira, who consisted of petty traders and artisans, appreciated the Oyo State Government and urged other leaders to emulate Open-Salawu’s empowerment initiatives.

A 64-year-old Asanat Jimoh, who won one million naira, lauded the transparent conduct of the raffle which gave her the opportunity to be among the beneficiaries.

The event featured the raffle draw, presentation of symbolic cheques to the five new millionaires and cash awards of five thousand naira to participants randomly picked across the town. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
