Ife (Osun State): Osun State Government has began work on the construction of a major flyover bridge at Lagere area of Ile-ife town as part of the government’s efforts to modernise the town, ease traffic movement and enhance economic activities.

A Correspondent of Flowerbudnews who visited the project site reports that different gangs of technicians and artisans were seen, busy operating mixers, and shaping spiral stirrups around vertical bars.

Other workers were busy operating payloaders, excavators and preparing
iron rods (bars) for piles to ensure firm, strong and very durable foundation for the bridge.

Flowerbudnews reports that a massive Auger was stationed permanently at the site for drilling activities for casting of piles (underground pillars).

On completion of hole drilling, the Auger was made to lift the long pile vertica÷lly into the air, and then gradually lowering it into the deep hole.

After positioning the pile reinforcement, the casting was then undertaken with concretes to form the foundation of the bridge.

A pile group of 15 were cast at each axis of the bridge awaiting pile cap to make a complete pile structure to bear the piers. One of the Company’s Engineer, an Expatriate, Engr. Shamir told Flowerbudnews that the cap and the pile group is the sub-Structure for the bridge.

Engr. Shamir said that the Sub-Structure would carry the Super Structure comprising the piers and the bridge.

Shamir commended the Contractor, SAMMYA Nigeria Limited for promptly providing all necessary materials and inputs that is making the construction go on a high pace.

A Supervising Engineer, Engr. AbdulGaniyu Oyebamiji, who was met on the site, explained that the sub-structure would be transmitting the entire load of the super structure and vehicular weight to the stable strata deep in the ground to maintain a firm balance and stability for the bridge

”Mostly, people only see the piers (thick pillars) and the bridge itself, but a heavy structure had been buried in the ground with underground rock as base for stability,” Engr Oyebamiji explained.

FLOWERBUDNEWS notes that Mega projects of flyover bridges, road dualisation and inter-city roads are currently.ongoing in several locations across Osun state being simultaneously executed by the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration for the benefits of the people of the state. (Flowerbudnews)
