This day marks the arrival of a leader whose life and leadership style are centered on the well-being of others. Born in Nigeria, specifically in Borno state, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum is a blessing to his people.
I refer to August 25 as a day of blessings because it signifies the beginning of a life destined for greatness, a life that has positively impacted countless individuals and communities. As we celebrate Governor Zulum’s 50th birthday, we honour his unwavering commitment to humanity and his selfless contributions to society.
Please take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day and the remarkable individual who has dedicated his life to serving others. August 25 is indeed a day of blessings, celebration of leadership, compassion, and humanity.
August 25 will forever be etched in the memories of individuals in Borno state, as it marks the birthday of Professor Zulum, a transformative leader who has made immense contributions to Borno state in the areas of education and economic development. His impact cannot be overstated, particularly given his background as a distinguished academic. Notably, he served as a teacher in two prestigious tertiary institutions in Borno state include Ramat Polytechnic and the University of Maiduguri. His commendable contributions to the academia, prior to embarking on a career in politics, are a testament to his dedication and commitment to excellence.
When Zulum embarked on his political journey under the mentorship of Kashim Shettima, serving as commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR) in Borno state, his leadership qualities and dedication readily caught the attention of his boss. Despite the prevailing Boko Haram insurgency, Professor Zulum demonstrated remarkable courage and commitment by regularly traveling to critical villages, assessing situations firsthand, and implementing effective solutions. This impressive display of leadership and resolve ultimately led Governor Kashim Shettima to choose Professor Zulum as his worthy successor, paving the way for him to become the governor of Borno. This is the quintessential definition of serving humanity, as demonstrated by Zulum’s altruistic endeavours and commitment to the betterment of society, before he became governor.
When Zulum was elected into office in 2019, it marked the beginning of a new journey that ushered in an era of greatness and unprecedented progress for the people of Borno state. Despite the severe and critical situation posed by Boko Haram in Borno state at the time, Zulum made a bold promise to tackle the insurgency head-on, in collaboration with President Muhammadu Buhari. Upon assuming office, Governor Zulum implemented a series of innovative strategies that significantly contributed to restoring the lost glory of Borno state, nicknamed and moniker which is the’Home of Peace’.
Zulum’s concerted efforts have led to significant milestones in tackling insecurity in the state, enabling the reopening of villages and the return of displaced persons to their ancestral homes. As a result of his unwavering commitment, numerous individuals have been neutralized, and areas previously destabilized by Boko Haram have been renovated and reconstructed, with housing provided for victims. This is a testament to Governor Zulum’s dedication to restoring peace and stability in Borno state.becouse peace is the backbone of any development and progress to the society and Zulum administration achieves it’s aims.
To further restore peace in the state, Zulum introduced the Community Security initiative, also known as the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), which played a pivotal role in bringing stability to Borno state. Additionally, Governor Zulum implemented a compensation scheme to incentives and reward the youth who participated in the program, recognizing their valuable contributions to the peace-building process.
As education is every important and what defines humans, Zulum has initiated the establishment of mega schools, aimed at providing vulnerable children with access to quality education in Borno state. This visionary endeavor is a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda, underscoring his commitment to empowering marginalized youth and fostering a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.
However, Governor Zulum’s commitment and dedication to the people of Borno state residents cannot be overstated. Despite facing numerous attacks, his unwavering efforts persist in serving humanity, demonstrating an unrelenting passion for the well-being of his constituents. His tireless work, day and night, in the face of adversity, is a testament to his remarkable leadership and selfless devotion to the greater good.
On this blessed day, Your Excellency Sir! I offer heartfelt prayers to Almighty Allah to guide and protect you, granting you continued strength and vitality to serve humanity. Your exemplary leadership and dedication to the people of Borno state will indeed be etched in the annals of history with indelible ink. May your legacy endure for generations to come.
