Ede (Osun state): The Federal Polytechnic Ede has clarified that some workers of the institution who were sacked during the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo administration were statutorily disengaged in line with the government’s monetisation and rightsizing policy.

The Polytechnic authorities faulted a recent publication by Committee for the Defence of Human Rights(CDHR) in the media space, calling on the institution to reinstate workers.

In a statement by Sola Lawal, its Protocol, Media and Public Relations Officer., the institution said that ”the policy which led to the sack of the individuals was not in anyway within the purview of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, neither does the Polytechnic has any influence on the policy.”

Lawal recalled that ” the administration of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, formulated the policy and its implementation affected some services such as security personnel, drivers, cleaners and a host of others, who were subsequently outsourced to private entities.

”Although, the affected people won the case in the law court, however, it is only the governing council of institution that can implement the Court judgement, and the same council is yet to be inaugurated by the federal government; and the reason why their case is still pending.”

He said that the management of the institution ”genuinely sympathises with the affected staff, it is indeed pertinent to put the record straight to avoid misinformation and confusion in the public space as exhibited by the Civil Society Organization.”

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) had publicly called on the Federal Polytechnic to reinstate members of staff who were laid off as a result of the monetization and rightsizing policy of the Federal Government.

The Polytechnic implored these individuals to patiently wait for the inauguration of the new council. (Flowerbudnews)
