Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has admonished those residing in flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions to avoid loss of lives.

He gave the advice following the sudden increase of Osun River that later turned to torrent flood which has displaced hundreds and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The governor on Sunday evening visited the affected area and assured that the government was already taking measures to further dredge the River starting from Monday.

Oyetola explained why dredging may not solve the issue,  pointing out that  the water flow from Ekiti State which may not stop soon is huge and topography  of Osun is sloppy which caused the overflow of the river.

He said, “With the dredging, I believe it will reduce the water flood substantially. The people should find a way of vacating temporarily because we are more concerned about the loss of lives, while the government is trying its best to minimise the possibility of flood. Rainfall is a natural thing that we can’t stop”.

Oyetola, frowned at the people imbibing in the habit of dumping refuse in the waterways, and warned them   to stop the act, threatening to establish an enforcement agency which will look their way.

It had  been reported the surge in Osun River which affected areas like Gbodofon community, Awosuru area, Baruwa Area, and Ibu-Amo community of Osogbo, Osun State.

It was also reported that the Baale of Ibu-Amo palace was submerged in the flood which displaced him and family from the house.
