2027 Electioneering: Enugu CP Directs Area Commanders, DPOs To Strengthen Security In Jurisdictions

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strengthen security in their respective jurisdictions.

Giwa also directed Area Commanders and DPOs to take personal charge of their areas of responsibility following increased political activities in the state ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

The state police boss gave the directive during a conference with senior officers of the Command at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu on Wednesday.

The commissioner also briefed the officers on key outcomes of the recently concluded Conference and Retreat of Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), held in Owerri, Imo.

The CARSPO Conference 2026 was themed: “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”

Expressing concern over recent political developments in the state, he charged them to ensure adequate security coverage for all political gatherings.

According to him, all political gatherings should be given security coverage whether formally notified to the police or not, ‘to prevent security breaches’.

To facilitate effective security deployment, the Commissioner directed Area Commanders and DPOs to engage political parties within their jurisdictions and obtain their campaign schedules for proper security planning.

“Officers should remain neutral, non-partisan and guided by the professional and ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force throughout this electioneering period,” he said.

Giwa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to impartial policing and the provision of adequate security for citizens generally, particularly for all lawful political activities across the state.

He charged officers heading tactical and operational departments, formations and units to strengthen crime-fighting strategies and sustain intelligence gathering.

The commissioner charged them to conduct professional raids on identified criminal hideouts within their areas of responsibility.

The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, DPOs, and heads of formations, units and sections of the command among others.
