Enugu LG Election: Rep Atu Hails Mbah, ENSIEC For Institutionalising Grassroots Democracy
Rep Sam Atu, the member Representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, has hailed Gov. Peter Mbah and the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for institutionalising democracy at the grassroots.
ENSIEC is conducting election into the 17 Chairmanship and 260 Ward Councillorship positions in the state.
Atu gave the commendation after casting his vote at polling unit 5 in Ward 10 within Community Primary School, Ugwuaji Awkunanaw in Enugu on Saturday.
He noted that the regular holding of council elections under Gov. Mbah had created inclusivity and the people’s participation in governance.
According to him, Gov. Mbah’s massive investment on education, health, security and other basic amenities have given the people a sense of belonging.
The lawmaker noted that he had supported the governor’s developmental stride by additional roads construction, massive street light projects, educational scholarships and vocation training cum empowerment in his constituency.
“The current Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani, is performing creditably well with his deputy and team of councillors through construction of some rural roads and social intervention programmes.
‘We are supporting his reelection for a second term for him to implement more developmental projects to our people and support our governor on the beautiful and statewide projects being executed,” he said.
Atu assured that the All Progressives Congres (APC) would continue to give all its candidates block votes anywhere in the state.
“You can see Ugwuaji people voting for APC in their numbers. It will continue like this till 4p.m.,” he said.
Atu also lauded ENSIEC for conducting a peaceful, seamless and transparent council election.
“ENSIEC performed exceptionally well in this election, which is judged the most peaceful and friendly in recent time,” he said.
The lawmaker also appreciated security agencies and the media for adding value to the election and discharging their duties professionally.
It would be recalled that seven political parties, who signed the Peace Pact for the election on Monday, are currently participating in the election.
