Rector Commended as Polytechnic Compensates Owners of Vehicles Vandalised by Students

Ede (Osun state,) Flowerbudnews: In an unusual gesture of goodwill, the Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede in Osun state has compensated all persons whose vehicles were vandalised by students of the institution during a recent riot.

Reliable sources told Flowerbudnews that not less than ten car owners, whose vehicles were damaged by rioting students have been duly compensated.

Flowerbudnews learnt however, some of the beneficiaries ”are still looking forward to additional compensation to fully offset the damages they suffered ”.

The sources told Flowerbudnews that nevertheless , the prompt act of bringing succour to the affected staffers has further endeared the Rector, Dr. Sani Man Yahaya to the workers, many of who commended the positive gesture.

Flowerbudnews recall that the students went on rampage last week following alleged arrest of some of their colleagues by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for suspected internet crimes.

Following the students’ disruption of the Institution’s academic activities, the management committee had held an emergency meeting on Friday, 10th May 2024, to consider the issue of some misguided students who vandalised Polytechnic and Staff properties.

A statement by the Registrar, Alh. I.T. Agboola, said that the Polytechnic’s Management ”frowned at the attitude of the students who went to confront the EFCC in Ibadan and vandalized properties on the campus.’:

Alh. Agboola disclosed that Management had resolved that security agencies be invited to the Polytechnic for remaining period of examinations to ensure protection of lives and properties.

He said that the Management also suspended students union activities and Executive because of the role played by the Students Union Leadership in leading Students to EFCC Zonal office in Ibadan and the destruction they carried out on the North campus.

”The Management Committee decided that Student Union activities and Students Union Executives would remain suspended until the Committee set up to investigate the matter submits its report.

”The Students Union are to submit all the Polytechnic properties in their custody to the Dean of Students Affairs immediately,” Akh. Agboola had declared in the statement. (Flowerbudnews)
