Fight against insurgency: IGP lauds Borno Police Command

The Inspector- General of Police, (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has lauded officers and men of the Borno state Police command  for sustaining the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and other crimes in the state and ensuring peace in the librated communities.

IGP Adamu, who  made the commendation while addressing officers and men of the command at the Borno State Police Command Maiduguri on Monday, said: “Terrorism is a global security challenge. I commended you for reducing terrorism to a common criminal they are”.

” The insurgents now don’t attack and occupy territories, as they used to do before, I commend you for doing your best despite the challenges you face, keep on the fight until the Northeast and Nigerian in general is free from insurgency and other crimes and criminality “, Adamu added.

He also said: “We are not unaware of your challenges of patrol vehicles and other logistic, as well as welfare packages. We will do our best to see that within our scares resources we address your challenges”.

He stated that despite the peculiar security changes in the Northeast, the region has the most deployment of personnel, patrol vehicles and other weaponry, assuring that he will continue to support them until the region is free from insurgency.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ndatsu, said: “Sir, your coming Is a great morale booster to the Command in the fight against insurgency and other crimes in the state. This visit will, therefore, serve as an impetus to the psyche and morale of the officers and men of the Command and also indicates your fatherly concern for the welfare of the police men in the state.”

“With the formal launch of Operation Puff Adder in the state on 5th, May 2019, the Command has made tremendous progress in the fight against insurgency and other heinous crimes and criminalities “, the CP added.

He said during the period under review, the Command has arrested 14 suspects for terrorism; 28 for kidnappings; 111 for robbery; 305 for drug related offences; 11 for cattle rustling; making a total of 473 suspects.

He further explained that the command also recovered 23 AJ 47 riffles, 1 type 06 riffle; two Berretta pistols; one long-range gun, 17 locally-made pistols, 19 locally-made guns, 13 single barrel guns and six Dane guns among other arms and ammunitions as well as other exhibits.

He said however these success was not without challenges and called on the IGP look into the unavailability of police stations and barracks in some locations and inadequacy of existing ones, inadequate and insufficiency weaponry patrol vehicles; combat Operation vehicles (APC) unavailability of fuel for patrol, shortage of manpower and incessant transfer of personnel without replacement and lack of radio communication network among others.
