Osun 2026: PDP state, federal lawmakers endorse Adeleke

Ahead of the August 8 governorship election in Osun State, members of the National and State Assemblies elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state have endorsed the Accord Party and its candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the lawmakers’ stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, the state capital, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

NAN reports that Adeleke defected from the PDP to the Accord Party on December 9, 2025, to seek re-election.

The communiqué, read by the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, stated that the endorsement of Adeleke was based on his performance in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, and democratic stability.

“Having reviewed the performance of the governor in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, and democratic stability, we unanimously endorse and give our total support to His Excellency, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, for a second term in office in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress for Osun State,” it said.

The communiqué, however, stated that the political realignments in the state do not in any way diminish the strength, structure, or grassroots support of the governor and the PDP in the state.

“The party remains united and firmly established at the National Assembly caucus level, State Assembly level, Executive Council, local governments, wards, and grassroots structures across the state,” it said.

The lawmakers also said they passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the PDP Chairman in the state, Mr Sunday Bisi, the State Working Committee, and the leadership of the party in all the 30 local government and area offices, as well as the 332 wards in the state.

“We say unequivocally that they remain the executives of the party in Osun State.

“Any individual or group parading themselves as alternative leadership does not have the backing of the duly elected National and State Assembly caucus of the party in Osun State and should not be accorded legitimacy,” the communiqué said.

The communiqué also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the local government crisis in the state.

The lawmakers said the continued withholding of local government allocations due to the state was causing avoidable hardship for teachers, nurses, healthcare workers, local government civil servants, retirees, and traditional institutions at the grassroots.

“We call on His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to give a directive to the illegal occupants to vacate immediately to avert crises.

“PDP as a party and the government in the state are law-abiding, and that is why we have chosen the path of peace and the path of law, not to throw the state into crisis,” it said.

The lawmakers called on the people of the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and steadfast in the defence of democracy and good governance.

NAN reports that five members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of the PDP on Saturday officially defected to the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Osun: Calls for State of Emergency: Failed Desperate Act of Oyetola and Oyebamiji — Gov. Adeleke

    By Flowerbudnews

Governor Ademola Adeleke has described the call by faceless civil society groups for the declaration of a state of emergency in Osun State as the last failed desperate act of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji who are frustrated by their inability to destabilise Osun State.

In a statement issued on Saturday at Osogbo, the Governor branded the call as a continuation of the failed plot by the Osun APC leadership to seize power through the backdoor after their consistent failure to win the support of Osun people, a statement by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the State Governor disclosed.

“We reiterate well known facts in public domain that the APC is the main source of disturbance in the state, paralysing local government, mismanaging LG fund, and illegally deploying police, making Mr Oyetola and his cohorts the most hated entities in Osun political space.

The APC seized local government funds, mismanaged the same, and forcefully occupied the councils, all in a bid to provoke violence and conflict. This is a deliberate strategy to create chaos and blame it on the Adeleke-led administration.

Governor Adeleke has, however, succeeded in maintaining peace despite open confrontation and illegality being perpetrated by these groups. The call for a state of emergency is an act of frustration and desperation.

Osun APC has failed in its evil bid to destabilise and create mayhem in Osun State, hence their resort to an open call for emergency declaration, for which there is no basis or justification.

How can the APC turn around to accuse Governor Adeleke of creating a crisis in Osun when the whole world knows that it was Mr Oyetola and his cohorts that masterminded the current instability at Osun local government level?

How can any sane person blame Governor Adeleke when it was the APC illegal chairmen who had criminally hijacked the local government and who had refused to quit office after the expiration of their self-awarded tenure?

How can Governor Adeleke be responsible for the impunity of seeking tenure elongation by these illegal chairmen while staying on illegally across the councils?

How is the Governor liable when it was the Osun APC that hijacked Osun LG fund at the UBA, in direct breach of the local government finance laws?

Who can blame Governor Adeleke, who has been using state money to pay local workers, who were abandoned by the illegal APC chairmen who were hellbent on sharing billions of local government funds among themselves?

Governor Adeleke is receiving accolades on a daily basis for his legal and matured handling of the local government crisis. The Osun APC has emerged as a truly anti-people and anti-humanity political party.

“We warn agents of violence and conflict that Osun has gone past the era of brute force. No individual or group of individuals will be allowed to further disturb the peace of Osun State. Anybody found creating public mayhem will face the full wrath of the law.

“I have directed the Commissioner of Police to watch, monitor, and stop the plot to plunge Osun into an open conflict. I call on the Inspector General of Police to take note of the current trend and deploy his men to action.

“I again call on Mr President to call Mr Oyetola to order. The action of the minister is splashing mud on the names of the Presidency. Mr Oyetola and his team should allow Osun to breathe.

“Those seeking power should face the electorates; voters will decide. Political power is secured through the people, no backdoor access will work. Osun people will not bow or surrender to impunity and an unconstitutional agenda.”

Osun:   Group Blasts APC, Affirms Adeleke’s Proven Leadership

    • Says;  YOU CAN’T WITHDRAW FAILURE:

    * *_Power Is Responsibility_*

    By Osun Pathfinder Team

The Osun Pathfinder Team issues this statement to remind the Osun All Progressive Congress and its gubernatorial candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of a fundamental principle of leadership that cannot be negotiated or abandoned: *Power is Responsibility*. It is not an experiment.

It is not a rehearsal. And it is not something to be withdrawn from when public scrutiny becomes uncomfortable.

The recent attempt by the APC and its candidate to distance themselves from a policy document earlier released in their name is a clear display of political *irresponsibility*. A serious contender for the office of Governor does not release a policy direction today, promote it aggressively, and disown it tomorrow because it failed the test of public debate. That is not leadership; that is evasion.

If a candidate cannot take responsibility for ideas presented in his own name, he has no moral basis to ask for the responsibility of governing Osun State.

This is why the Pathfinder Team stands firm on its creed: *Power Is Responsibility.*

Leadership demands ownership of decisions, clarity of vision, and the courage to stand by ideas, especially when they are questioned. Governance is not about noise or clever packaging; it is about accountability and service.

While the APC is entangled in contradictions and damage control, *Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke continues to govern with a deep sense of responsibility* to the people of Osun. His administration is not campaigning with documents; it is governing with results that Osun people can see, feel, and measure.

Under Governor Adeleke, responsibility has produced tangible outcomes:
    * Workers are paid fully and promptly, restoring dignity and stability to families.
    * Pensioners and retirees are treated with respect, not neglect.
    * The economy is structured to ensure that Osun resources serve Osun people first, strengthening local businesses and communities.
    * Artisans, cooperatives, and small enterprises receive targeted financial support that empowers the grassroots.
    * Agriculture is being repositioned beyond subsistence into value-driven and industrial growth.
    * Infrastructure development is purposeful, connecting communities and unlocking productivity.
    * Youths are being prepared for the future through digital innovation and skills-based opportunities.
    * Investments are pursued through responsible partnerships that protect Osun’s long-term interests.

This is what leadership looks like when power is understood as responsibility.

By contrast, the APC’s confusion reveals a dangerous mindset – one that treats governance as a campaign trial rather than a sacred trust. Their inability to defend or even own their policy direction underscores a lack of preparedness and seriousness. Osun cannot afford leaders who run from their own ideas.

Governor Adeleke does not withdraw policies because his policies are already at work. Roads are being constructed. Institutions are being revived. Economic confidence is returning. Osun is stable and moving forward with purpose.

Osun people know the difference between responsibility and recklessness, between tested leadership and experimental ambition.

*Power is responsibility,* and Osun has chosen leaders who understand and respect this truth.

    * Osun will not gamble with its future.

    * Osun will not return to failure.

    * Osun will continue on the path of progress.
