OSOGBO: Governor Ademola Adeleke has reportedly dismissed social media claims suggesting that the Accord coalition reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share local government positions and legislative seats in Osun State.
The alleged arrangement was said to involve the distribution of local government positions, Senate seats, House of Representatives seats and State House of Assembly seats between the political camps. According to the statement provided for this report, however, no such power-sharing agreement exists.
Presidential Alliance, Local Political Competition
In a statement attributed to the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke reportedly clarified that the coalition’s understanding with the Presidency concerns support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, rather than an agreement to allocate other elective offices.
The statement also addressed the ongoing local government crisis, emphasising the need to restore grassroots governance and protect the interests of stakeholders.
The governor was quoted as saying that resolving the local government matter remains important to preparations for the forthcoming electoral cycle.
Legislative Seats Remain Open to Competition
The statement further maintained that candidates contesting for the National Assembly and Osun State House of Assembly would face the electorate without any pre-arranged distribution of seats.
Adeleke was quoted as saying that political parties would be free to campaign for their respective candidates, while he would campaign for Accord candidates in the state’s legislative elections.
If confirmed by the governor’s official statement, this clarification would distinguish cooperation over the presidential election from competition in state and federal legislative contests.
JIMI-BADA VANGUARD MEDIA: CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE POLITICAL REPORTING
The Jimi-Bada Vanguard Media (JBV), under the leadership of Hon. Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN) and the coordination of Hon. Oluwaseun Arewa, calls on political stakeholders, party supporters and media practitioners to exercise caution when sharing reports about alleged political agreements.
Political developments should be assessed on the basis of verifiable statements and credible evidence, rather than unconfirmed social media claims.
JBV also encourages the people of Osun State to remain attentive to official announcements concerning local government administration, party arrangements and the forthcoming elections.
Ultimately, the distribution of elective offices must be determined through the applicable democratic and electoral processes, in accordance with the law.
