Enugu Govt, Police Medical Services Pledge Stronger Health Collaboration
The Enugu State Government and Police Medical Services have pledged stronger health collaboration meant to ensure optimal healthcare for residents in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Enugu State Ministry of Health, Mrs Chidiogo Ugodu, on Saturday in Enugu.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, gave the pledge when he received Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Directorate of Force Medical Services, ACP Jenkins Ukaga, and his team on a courtesy visit to his office on Friday.
Ugwu described the engagement as a strategic development that would strengthen health and well-being of police personnel, their families and the citizens of the state and beyond.

He noted that the proposed collaboration aligns with the broader vision of the government to strengthen the health sector and ensure that residents and critical institutions have access to quality and responsive healthcare services.
Ugwu stressed the strong interest of Gov. Peter Mbah in transforming healthcare delivery in the state.
He noted that the development of the 300-bed Enugu International Hospital as one of the major milestones in the administration’s health-sector agenda.
The commissioner praised the governor’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services, stressing that the investment would further expand the capacity of the state to provide specialised and quality medicare.

Ugwu assured the police medical team that the ministry was fully prepared to collaborate with the Directorate of Force Medical Services.
He said, “Strategic partnerships among government institutions remained essential to achieving better health outcomes.
“I am optimism that the engagement would open a new chapter of cooperation between the ministry and the Nigeria Police Force in Enugu, particularly in promoting health and wellbeing of police personnel, their families and the citizens.”
Earlier, Ukaga said that the team was at the ministry to formally introduce the Medical Services Department of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command, to the ministry.

He advocated for broader ways to explore areas of collaboration and mutual support between the two establishments.
He explained that the partnership would focus particularly on improving access to quality healthcare for police officers, their families and the citizens of the state at large.
