CP Giwa Urges Youths To Shun Cultism, Substance Abuse

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has urged youths to shun cultism, drug and substance abuse in order to foster a bright future.

Giwa made the call on Friday while receiving and interacting with leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as part of preparations for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) International Youth Day 2026 Celebration.

The commissioner urged the student leaders to continue engaging their fellow students on the need to remain law-abiding.

The state police boss also called on youths to be focused and committed to their education, while shunning social vices.

Giwa appreciated the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olatunji Disu, for his foresight in introducing the first police-commemorated NPF International Youth Day,

According to him, youths in the state should participate actively in the dialogue; interact with the police and share ideas on building a safer and more secure society, with the 2027 General Elections in mind.

Giwa also outlined activities for the NPF International Youth Day 2026 celebration under the National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative.

He said that the 2026 commemoration is themed: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” and while the Police Special National Campaign for Youths for 2027 General Elections is themed: “My Future is Greater Than Political Thuggery.”

He said that the celebration would commence with a Walkathon through the streets of Enugu metropolis.

“The commemoration will climax on Aug. 22, with a Police-Youth Dialogue at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.

“The event will feature the formal launch of the Police Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery,” he said.

Responding, the NANS delegation led by the Coordinator, NANS Zone-F, Comrade Kelvin Okeke, appreciated the I-G for having robust programmes of the youths and supporting the International Youth Day.

Okeke commended the Police Command in Enugu State, under the leadership of the commissioner, for its efforts in stabilising security and maintaining professionalism in the state.
