The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says that on ground intelligence gathered confirms that Enugu State is calm and peaceful even as nationwide hunger protest entered day two.
The Spokesman of NSCDC Enugu State Command, Mr Emmanuel Nwatu, disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu on Friday.
Nwatu, who is a Superintendent of Corps, noted as at 12 noon on Aug. 2 (Day two of protest) intelligence obtained from NSCDC patrol teams and on ground intelligence officers confirmed that “Enugu State is perfectly calm.”
According to him, in view of the ongoing nationwide protest, collaboration and intelligence sharing among sister agencies is also being prioritised by the Command.
“Reports from the State Command headquarters, three Area Commands, and 17 Divisional Officers of the NSCDC Enugu State Command indicate that near normalcy has returned to every part of Enugu State.
“As of today, near normalcy has been observed in major markets across the state. These include:
New Market, Old Park Market (Ogbete Market), Abakpa Market, Gariki Market and Mayor Market.
“Many government offices have opened and resumed normal operations. Both pedestrians and motorists, including commercial vehicles, are active on the roads,” he said.
The NSCDC spokesman said that the corps under the capable leadership of Commandant Cyprian Otoibhi, remained on high alert notwithstanding the favourable intelligence.
“The command will continue to prioritise actionable intelligence gathering to ensure ongoing safety and security of lives and property in the state,” he said.
