The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Offiong Efangha Offiong, has appointed a new Head of Department (HOD) for Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology in the Faculty of Pharmacy.
In a letter dated September 22, 2026, the Vice Chancellor approved the appointment of Prof. Ubong Samuel Ekong as Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology.
The appointment is for an initial period of three years, effective September 23, 2026, to September 22, 2029, a statement by the University’s Public Relations Unit announced.
The Vice Chancellor charged the newly appointed HOD to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the assignment and ensure effective administration of the department for optimal results.
Prof. Offiong further urged him to align with the mission and vision of his administration, uphold the University’s values and expectations, and provide purposeful leadership.
He also warned that the University Management would not hesitate to sanction any Head of Department who fails to submit students’ results within the stipulated timeframe.
The Vice Chancellor directed relevant units of the University to extend the courtesies associated with their offices to the appointee.
He also charged the outgoing Head of Department to ensure a smooth and proper handover.
