Enugu Council Election Witness Late Arrival Of Materials, Poor Initial Voter Turnout
The Enugu State Local Government Election conducted in the state witnessed late arrival of materials and poor initial turnout of voters.
It was observed on Saturday that electoral materials started arriving polling centres as at 9:45a.m. within Enugu metropolis.
Most polling centres within the state capital at Timber Market, Maryland, Independence Layout, Community Primary School, Ugwuaji and Abakpa Nike witnessed poor initial voter turnout.
Reacting, the former Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Chiemezie Nkwuo, said that by 12 noon the polling centres would be filled with voters.
‘Some residents came here before 8a.m. but later went home to attend to domestic issues and businesses.
“However, we are already mobilising for them to return, you can see the number is increasing, as the election has started in earnest,” Nkwuo said.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) is conducting election into the 17 Chairmanship and 260 Ward Councillorship positions in the state.
Seven political parties, who signed the Peace Pact for the election on Monday, are currently participating at the election.
