Vote, Defend Your Votes, Shun Violence – ENSIEC Urges Enugu Residents
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has urged electorate in the state to cast their vote, defend it and shun all forms of violence and electoral malpractices.
The Executive Chairman of ENSIEC, Prof. Christian Ngwu, said this to newsmen on Friday in Enugu.
Ngwu said this while supervising the distribution of sensitive and non sensitive materials at ENSIEC’ headquarters ahead of the Local Government Election on Saturday.
He called on the electorate to cast their votes without fear or favour as adequate security arrangements had been made to protect electoral officials, materials and the electorate.
Ngwu said that with the distribution of the materials to the 17 council areas and subsequent distribution to ward area centres and polling units, the commission is ready for a peaceful, hitch-free and transparent poll.
“We have made adequate arrangements and the poll will open by 8a.m. and close by 4p.m.
“For now, we have not envisaged any delay or failure, so we are not planning for extension of time beyond 4p.m..
“As a commission, we have worked hard and we sincerely believe that all will go well and the poll will be a huge success,” he said.
The chairman urged all stakeholders in the election to take it easy, shun all manner of provocative utterances and actions at the polling centres.
“Let’s be civil and within some hours the election will be over as it starts by 8a.m. tomorrow,” he said.
It would be recalled that ENSIEC had scheduled election for the 17 Chairmanship and 260 Ward Councillorship positions in the state for Sept. 26.
Seven political parties, who signed the Peace Pact for the election on Monday, would be participating at the election.
