GOC hails Enugu School excursion, says
Nigerian Army remains people-centric force
Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army, has hailed the Zaneivy School, Enugu excursion to the Division, stressing that the Nigerian Army remains a people-centric force.
Fadairo, who is also the Commander Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, said this on Friday when he interacted with the pupils and staff of Zaneivy School, Enugu on educational excursion to the 82 Division Headquarters, Enugu.
He noted that the Nigerian Army was commitment to fostering civil-military relations, promoting a better understanding of its roles and responsibilities.
According to him, through this types of civil-military relations and close interactions, the Nigerian Army is encouraging the youths in the South-East to join the Armed Forces.
He commended the management of Zaneivy School for organizing the excursion.
The GOC noted that such visits provide young learners with the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the Nigerian Army’s constitutional roles, operational capabilities and contributions to peace, national security and development.
He noted that the visit underscored the Division’s unwavering commitment to deepening public engagement, promoting mutual understanding and inspiring the younger generation to embrace the values of patriotism, discipline and selfless service to the nation.
Fadairo, who described the young learners as future leaders of the nation, encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined, patriotic and dedicated to their studies.
In a symbolic display of military tradition and discipline, one of the pupils was accorded the honour of inspecting the Quarter Guard under the guidance of a military personnel.
The young learners also toured various facilities within the Division, including the worship centres, Signal facilities, the Nigerian Army Band and the Cantonment Medical Centre.
They were educated on the unique roles the units, formations and departments play in supporting military operations and in ensuring peace and security in the region.
During the excursion, the young learners received an information brief on the activities and responsibilities of Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army.
They were also given the opportunity to ride in a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, exposing them to one of the Nigerian Army’s specialized operational platforms.
Responding, one of teachers of Zaneivy School, Enugu, Mrs Judith Onwuka, appreciated the GOC, entire officers and soldiers of the Division for the honour accorded pupils of the school as well as time spent out of their ever busy schedule.
“This excursion has afforded the pupils and us, teachers, opportunity to appreciate the roles and sacrifices of the personnel of the Nigerian Army to secure us all.
“We are also schooled on humanitarian, health and educational services among other services the army offer to citizens.
“We are also grateful and not forgetting other little known functions army personnel carry out daily, such as securing our nation’s territorial borders each minute of the day,” Onwuka said.
The high points of the visit were a question-and-answer session, presentation of souvenirs by the GOC to members of the school staff and group photographs among others.
The GOC was accompanied by the Commander 82 Division Garrison, Brig.-Gen. G.A. Suru, who initially received the visitors, as well as commanders of affiliated units within the Division to engage the visitors.
