COAS Charges Commanding Officers on Strengthen Operational Effectiveness by Enhancing Capacity to Lead
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has charged Commanding Officers to strengthen their operational effectiveness by continually enhancing their capacity to lead personnel.
The COAS also tasked the commanding officers on effective management of resources in their roles as tactical commanders.
Shaibu gave the charge while declaring open the Second Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2026 at the Headquarters 82 Division Dragon Officers’ Mess, Enugu.
The five-day workshop is themed: “Enhancing Tactical Level Leadership in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”
Represented by the Chief of Training (Army), Maj.-Gen. V. U. Okoro, the COAS described the workshop as timely in view of the nation’s evolving security challenges.
He emphasised the need for Commanding Officers to strengthen their leadership, operational effectiveness and administrative competence to effectively translate strategic objectives into tactical successes.
He noted that the workshop aligns with the COAS’ Command Philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force capable of operating effectively in joint and multi-agency environments.
The army chief urged participants to actively engage in the lectures, discussions, and syndicate problem-solving sessions to develop innovative solutions to contemporary operational challenges.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Maj.,-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, welcomed the participants and described the workshop as a valuable platform for Commanding Officers to review their leadership approaches, enhance professional competence and consolidate operational gains.
The GOC appreciated the COAS for approving and supporting the workshop and other operations of the Division.
He encouraged participants to remain focused throughout the workshop and apply the knowledge gained in ensuring effective administration of their respective units.
