MainPower appeals to residents in parts of Enugu over delayed power restoration

The Management of MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has appealed to residents in Emene and its environs in Enugu metropolis for patience and understanding over the prolonged power outage.

The prolonged power outage was caused by the wire cut on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 towers as well as other associated faults.

The Managing Director of MEDL, Dr Ernest Mupwaya, made the appeal on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing repair works on the electrical towers located around Naira Triangle axis in Emene, Enugu.

Mupwaya expressed regret over the inconveniences experienced by residents, particularly those in Emenite, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Sunrise Estate, Conraws Estate, Rehab Road and Adoration areas.

He assured them that the ongoing reconductoring of the affected lines and reinforcement of the towers are receiving attention and would soon be completed.

The MainPower boss attributed the delay in completing the work to additional technical challenges discovered during the restringing of the wires, which pose safety risks to residents living around the affected tower locations.

The managing director explained that the situation necessitated reinforcing the towers to prevent any possible collapse and ensure the safety of lives and property.

He clarified that the major fault remains on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, while the outages affecting the Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku-Ozalla, and Ugwogo 33KV lines were deliberately initiated to provide a safe working environment for engineers handling the repairs.

The managing director was accompanied on the inspection by the Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Chimezie Chukwu; the Head of Operations, Engr. Ikenna Mbamablu, and the Team Lead, Quick Response Team, Abakpa District, Engr. Bethrand Amu.

It would be recalled that the heavy windstorm and rainfall experienced on Sunday, May 3, 2026, caused a wire cut on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2.

The incident damaged the towers and disrupting power supply to the Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku-Ozalla, and Ugwogo 33KV lines within the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Switch Yard at the New Haven Station, Enugu.
