Al-Hikmah University Matriculates 1,611 students

The Vice-Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University, Prof Noah Yusuf has advised the 1, 611 matriculting students of the institution to shun social vices that could hinder their academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the advice while addressing the matriculating students at the Adeta campus of the University in Ilorin on Thursday.

He said the University is matriculating the highest number of students ever since her inception in January, 2020 with a total of 1,611 students comprising of 1,302 UTME; 297 Direct Entry and 12 Transfer students;

Prof. Yusuf implored the new students to imbibe the virtues of moral uprightness and the attendant benefits of wisdom and academic excellence.

He urged them to justify the huge money, which their parents expended on them by sponsoring them to Al- Hikmah University.

According to him, it is needful for the students to strive to graduate in flying colours with best grade, with special congratulatory message to the 30 pioneer medical students.

“I implore our matriculating students to imbibe the virtues of moral uprightness and the attendant benefits of wisdom and academic excellence, which you can do by:

” Obeying University rules and regulations; Don’t be disobedient. Attendng your lectures promptly; Don’t be a truant

” Ensuring that you complete all class assignments and submit for assessment and grading; Don’t be in the “bad book” of your lecturers.

“Always be available in your room during every bedcheck; Don’t be a night crawler.

“Associating with academically serious-minded classmates and school friends; Don’t be a friend to Campus bad boys or girls

“Taking the observance of daily Salat serious; It’s one of the reasons your parents sent you to Al-Hikmah University.

“Al-Hikmah University is today a household name in Nigeria courtesy of the ideals for which the University is widely acknowledged. These strengths which are the selling points of our University include the following, among others:

“The first Islamic Faith-based University in Nigeria having been established in 2005;
Located in the heart of Ilorin metropolis, which is easily accessible from Gen. Tunde Idiagbon International Airport;

“The University provides quality education blends with moral and spiritual essence; Well secured academic environment which is also student friendly;

“NUC Full accreditation status of all 55 undergraduate academic programmes; Professional accreditation of specialised programmes – Law, MLS, Geological Sciences, Public Health and Nursing,” the VC added.

The Vice-Chancellor assured parents and guardians that the institution will never betray the trust which they repose in the University, saying “Be rest assured that your wards are in good hands and as our children, they shall receive the best of attention, care, guidance and direction. I wish our children divine protection, guidance, and success throughout your academic sojourn.”

In his Matriculation lecture, Prof. Luqman Olayaki titled: “Path to successful career as undergraduate students in an Islamic-based University, reminded the students of the difficulties in securing admission into any University in Nigeria.

He said that in spite of the increase in the numbers of Universities only a third of admission seekers actually secured admission through JAMB at the end of admission processes.

Olayaki warned that the students cannot afford to be complacent in their academic activities and therefore must be up and doing to graduate from the institution with flying colours.

The lecturer advised the new students on time management, use of social media, clarity of purpose, attitudes and the need to shun bad relationship and negative influences.
