Agency partner Big Bite has built an entirely new site platform for Nobel Peace Prize Winner Amnesty International, with the new WordPress editor as its foundation, via the Gutenberg plugin. They focused on developing custom blocks and a core theme that serves as the heart of Amnesty’s digital efforts moving forward. More than a new site, this is a framework for applying consistent brand identity, design, and user experience standards to many new sites and for allowing creators to spin up new, powerful sites quickly and with ease. And as a part of Big Bite’s and Amnesty’s shared commitment to giving back to the community, large parts of the project will be released as open source components for anyone to use.

The Presidency has dismissed Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) allegation that the one billion dollars drawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) was spent by the Muhammadu Buhari administration on the 2019 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party in a statement on Sunday asked Buhari to explain to Nigerians what his administration had done with one billion dollars drawn from the ECA in 2017 and meant to address the nation’s security challenges.

The amount was approved by the National Economic Council in December,  2017, to be used to purchase weapons to fight insurgency across the country.

However, Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, said “this unverifiable allegation’’ clearly indicated that the PDP was suffering from socio emotional distress.

He said  PDP ”thinks that all governments in the world run on the basis of freewheeling looting as they did their own.

”Here is what happened to that 1,000 million dollars.

”It’s on record that the Buhari administration paid about 490 million dollars for a dozen Super Tucano fighter aircraft in a direct, government-to-government (no Contractors or Commission Agents) transaction with government of the United States.

”Various other military procurements have been made. Balance of expenditure stands at about 880 million dollars or so.

”The PDP spent Defence procurement funds on their failed 2015 political campaigns as proven in court.

”That is not to say every succeeding government, more so one led by a Buhari will do the same.”

The presidential aide added that, barring considerations of national security, the details of the stage of implementation, the procurements made and the suppliers will be obtained and made available on Monday. (NAN)

Sen. Danjuma Goje, has said that he had never faced a N25 billion corruption charge preferred by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Goje, the senator representing Gombe Central at the National Assembly, disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

His denial is however running contrary to a story published by the EFCC on their website in 2013 which clearly stated that the former Gombe State Governor was standing trial along four others for 25 billion alleged fraud.

The story on the EFCC website reads in part: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has urged Justice B.O. Quadri of the Federal High Court, Gombe, to discountenance the opposition of Sambo Muhammad Tumu to the admissibility of his statement which he claimed was obtained involuntarily.

“Tumu, a food supplier to Gombe State Government House alongside the erstwhile governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Danjuma Goje and four others are facing a N25 billion conspiracy and money laundering charge brought against them by EFCC.

“At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th May 2013, his counsel Paul Erokoro, SAN insisted the statement of his client should not be admitted in evidence”.

However, in a statement signed by Mr Paul Erokoro, lawyer to the senator, Goje said the claim was “inaccurate and untrue.”

Erokoro was reacting to recent reports in the media that corruption charge being faced by the senator were withdrawn following his decision to step down from the Senate president race in June.

He insisted that the actual amount mentioned in the charge was N9 billion.

“The so-called “N25b fraud” that has been bandied about in the media, never featured in the case.

“The sum total of all the monies mentioned in the charge was about N8b.

“Of that total, N5billion was a loan taken from Access Bank for completion of infrastructural projects such as the Gombe airport, waterworks, numerous roads, Gombe Jewel Hotels, schools, hospitals and rural electrification.

“The bank testified in Court that the money was properly utilised for the projects. The EFCC investigators also confirmed to the Court that the projects were all completed.”

On the N1 billion agricultural loan, he said that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had testified in court that the loan was utilised in full compliance with the bank’s loan conditions.

“Other witnesses told the court that the governor never awarded any contract for the supply of food to Government House and Government Guest Houses during his tenure for the N1 billion alleged in the charge or for any other sum.

“On the N1.6 billion for the supply of English Dictionaries for primary and secondary schools, the Court was told that Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) gave its approval and that the contract was advertised in two newspapers and that reputable book publishers and suppliers tendered and that State Universal Basic Education Board awarded the contract to the lowest bidder.”

He said all the 19 counts of the charge around the above monetary issues collapsed during the trial.

He said because the prosecution witnesses completely exonerated the defendants was why the 19 counts were all dismissed by the court, on the the ground of No Case submission.

He added that the star witness of the Prosecution, a senior EFCC operative who headed the investigation, told the court that throughout their investigation, no money belonging to the Gombe State Government was traced to the Governor, his family members or associates.

He because of their embarrassing nature, the two counts of the charge were withdrawn by the Attorney-General of the Federation and not on political negotiation as being speculated.

 

Nigerian pilgrims to the 2019 Hajj have been advised to be security conscious as their movement from Madinah to Makkah entered second day on Friday.

The Head of Civic Orientation, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Alhaji Bala Umar, gave the advice while sensitising the pilgrims in Madinah.

He stressed the need for the pilgrims to always interact with the officers of the commision detailed to take care of their welfare, to ensure they had hitch-free Hajj.

“The sensitisation programme will be a continuous exercise to ensure that every pilgrim achieve acceptable Hajj,” he said.

Bala expressed satisfaction on the orderly and peaceful conduct of the pilgrims and urged them to sustain the tempo.

He, however, told the pilgrims to always seek clarification from Hajj officers on grey areas in order to accomplish their reason of being in Saudi Arabia.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no Nigerian pilgrim has been caught breaching the security of Saudi Arabian authorities since the first batch arrived Madinah on July 10.

Meanwhile, Nigerian pilgrims have continued in their prayers at the Prophet’s mosque in Madinah in an orderly manner, under the watchful eyes of Saudi Arabian security personnel.

Sources from NAHCON showed that Flynas XY 5453 departed Sokoto to Madinah early morning on Friday with 428 Sokoto pilgrims.

The commission said that the number comprised 284 males and 144 females, adding that a total of 12,131 pilgrims had so far arrived Madinah in 25 flights, since the inaugural flight in Katsina on July 10.

She wrote on her Instagram @_jada.p: “My account was hacked in the late hours of Monday morning and my Instagram account was compromised.

“I can guarantee that the statement written was not by my hand. I can only apologise for any confusion this may have caused.

“I have now recovered my account.”

The post announcing her split from Wizkid had earlier surfaced on Pollock Instagram page, alleging that the ‘Fever’ crooner hit her multiple times during the relationship.

It read in parts: “From today, Ayo and I will no longer work together. I have been in an abusive relationship with him for years, covering up for him time and time again and I am tired.

“Wiz continuously puts his hands on me, leaves me with bruises that I cover up from the world, including my friends and family.

“It often feels like we are at war in the same house. I have done all I can to keep this all together but from today, I let go.”

However, in less than 48 hours, Pollock refuted the post that had alleged domestic violence and split from the Star boy.

Pollock, also known as Jada Styles, is a showbiz icon and head of a consulting business firm she co-founded with African football star, Didier Drogba.

She is responsible for the branding of many prominent international football players.

Her relationship with Wizkid began on professional terms before the arrival of their child, causing rifts between the first mothers of his children.

He said that though the cattle at the Itam domain were both for sale or for slaughter, and the cattle farmers did not really have areas for setting up tsetse fly traps as requested by the ministerial team, they had an outlet at Nwaniba where such intervention could be done. He said, “I will call someone so that on getting there you will get access.” The team, led by Mr Okoro Gilbert, was in the area as part of the nationwide flag-off of tsetse fly surveillance to combat the infestation and control of the vector in Akwa Ibom. Earlier, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the FMLD, Mrs Ikankeabasi Ukpong, had told the cattle farmers that the team had also chosen the Central Abbatoire, Itam, for the exercise. She said, “We are from the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. We are coming to seek your permission concerning the field work we want to carry out in respect of tsetse fly attacks on your cattle. So this will help with intervention.” Ukpong said that 12 species of tsetse fly had been identified in Nigeria, adding that of the identified groups of tsetse flies, the Glossina palpalis had been endemic in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. She said the team would visit tsetse flies endemic areas in Uyo, Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Mbo, and Oron Local Government Areas to ensure a successful surveillance to curb vector infestation in Akwa Ibom. President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Mr Amaju Pinnick, has been impeached as 1st Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

His removal took place on Thursday at CAF Executive Committee meeting,  after a well attended congress in Cairo Egypt.

It would be recalled that Pinnick was elevated to the position after the corruption case brought against former Ghana FA President and CAF 1st VP, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

CAF executive committee on Wednesday agreed to allow FIFA Secretary General take charge of the administration of CAF for a period of 6 Months.

The FIFA Secretary is expected to take over the running of CAF in spite objection by some Executive Committee members.

Samoura will be in charge for an initial six-month period due to begin on August 1, with her team responsible to carry out a “full forensic audit” of CAF, whose President Ahmad Ahmad is facing allegation of corruption.

Ahmad was arrested over corruption charges in Paris last month.

A twitter user Osasu Obayiuwana who is in Egypt tweeted a message saying that the it was unclear why Pinnick was removed.
