2027 Niger South Senate: Ndarani SAN seeks royal blessings

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

The All Progressives Party (APC) Senatorial Aspirant for Niger South in the 2027 general elections, Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, has solicited for the blessings of traditional rulers in the zone to realise his ambition.

He made the appeal in continuation of his consultations with the traditional institution and critical stakeholders across the three Emirates that made up the district.

Ndarani, who also holds the traditional title of Hukunchi Nupe and Hausaland, over the weekend paid courtesy visits to the palaces of the Emir of Agaie and the Emir of Lapai, where he formally informed them of his decision to contest for the Niger South Senatorial seat.

During the consultations, the learned silk also met with District Heads in Agaie, Lapai and Bida, where he outlined his vision for the zone and sought their prayers, guidance and support.

The Emir of Agaie, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu, expressed delight over the calibre of personalities supporting the movement, particularly the presence of former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Mr Jonathan Vatsa.

The royal father said the coming together of experienced and respected stakeholders was a positive sign for the aspiration.

“Alhamdulillahi! I am very happy because you have searched very well and that is what I have always advised.

“I have told you politicians to always talk to each other. Politics is not about fighting; it is about getting the right people to do what we want,” he said.

The Emir commended the consultative approach adopted by the aspirant, describing it as a demonstration of humility and respect for traditional institutions.

“I know the Chiroma of Lapai; but I know him better now. He always does the right thing. May Allah bless you.

“Actually, we are happy you accepted the call to serve because we know the good works you have been doing.

“We receive reports of almost everything you do and we know you as someone passionate about development. We pray Allah blesses this movement and grants you victory so that our dreams can become a reality,” he added.

Similarly, the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida 111, who was represented by the Nakordi of Lapai and District Head of Tashilo, Alhaji Suleiman Madami, assured the delegation of the palace’s goodwill and prayers.

According to him, electing competent individuals who understand legislative processes and constitutional matters was critical for effective representation.

“Whichever support we are going to give him to get to the Senate, may Allah guide us in that direction. Every benefit that comes from it is for all of us.

“Among Nupe lawyers, we are always happy seeing people like Ndarani in positions such as the Senate because legislative discussions require deep understanding of the constitution.

“Some people go to the Senate only to sleep because they do not understand the constitution. But he is someone who understands both the constitution and the needs of the poor,” he said.

In Bida, Alhaji Gimba Ishaku, the Makun Nupe, who also serves as the Chairman of Bida Emirate District Heads, alongside the District Head of Katayeregi, offered prayers for the success of the aspirant, describing him as a worthy son of the Nupe kingdom.

They noted that Ndarani had consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare and progress of the people even before seeking elective office.

The Bida Emirate District Heads explained that Ndarani’s humility, accessibility and respect for traditional institutions had endeared him to many communities across the zone.

According to them, the Nupe kingdom will benefit greatly from having someone with his experience, integrity and legal expertise representing the people at the National Assembly.

They however urged Ndarani to remain focused and committed to the ideals of justice, fairness and development, adding that traditional institutions will continue to offer prayers and wise counsel throughout his political journey.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Director General of Ndarani SAN Senatorial Organisation (NDASSO), Alhaji Mohammed Dagachi Etsuagaie, said the delegation was in the palace to seek the blessings and guidance of the traditional rulers.

Etsuagaie explained that the aspiration was a collective decision by stakeholders across the Nupe kingdom who believed that Ndarani possessed the capacity and integrity to represent the people effectively.

“Between us and Allah, he did not initially say he wanted to contest. It was people from across the Nupe kingdom who approached him and urged him to represent us in the Senate and protect the integrity of the Nupe people.

“At first he declined, but after several appeals and consultations, he accepted the challenge and agreed to answer the call of the people. That is why we are here today to inform you that he has accepted to contest the Niger South Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Jonathan Vatsa, a former Niger State Commissioner for Information, highlighted Ndarani’s commitment to defending the interests of the region.

He recalled Ndarani’s strong intervention on issues concerning the Baro Port project, noting that the aspirant stood firmly in defence of the port when doubts were raised about its viability.

“Your Royal Highness, Baro is the only port we have in the North. It is not only for Niger State; it is an asset for the entire region,” he said.

Vatsa also narrated how Ndarani supported relief efforts during the devastating flood in Mokwa, explaining that the aspirant contributed to interventions aimed at assisting victims of the disaster.

Also speaking, a former Commissioner of Health in Niger, Dr Isah Yahaya-Vatsa, described Ndarani as a passionate advocate for the development of Nupe kingdom and the state at large.

He said the aspirant had already begun advocating for policies that would benefit the state even before becoming a senator.

According to him, Ndarani had written to the National Assembly advocating for 13 per cent derivation for states hosting hydroelectric dams, noting that Niger state deserved such benefits because it hosts major power-generating dams that supply electricity across Nigeria and beyond.

“Even before becoming a senator, he has already started pushing for policies that will benefit Niger State.

“If he gets to the Senate, he will ensure that such proposals receive the necessary legislative attention,” he said.

On his part, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria who is also the aspirant said his decision to join the senate race was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people and attract meaningful development to the region.

Ndarani SAN explained that his aspiration was not motivated by personal gain but by the need to ensure that the people of the zone benefit from democratic governance.

“My decision to run for the Senate is not about personal gains or my pocket.

“It is about service and the desire to bring the much-needed dividends of democracy to our people,” the legal ICON said.

The learned silk assured the traditional rulers that if given the opportunity to serve, he would focus on legislative initiatives that would promote economic development, youth empowerment and infrastructural growth across the district.

He also pledged to work closely with traditional institutions, community leaders and stakeholders to address the challenges facing the region.

The aspirant thanked the traditional rulers for the warm reception and prayers, assuring them that their guidance and support will remain invaluable in his quest to serve the people.

He prayed for peace, unity and continued progress for the Nupe kingdom and Nigeria as a whole.

Oyo Opens Power Sector to Investors, Unveils New Electricity Market Framework

Oyo Opens Power Sector to Investors, Unveils New Electricity Market Framework.

    ‎By Adewale Owoade.

‎The Oyo State Government has commenced a major overhaul of its electricity sector, opening up the market to private investors as part of a broader strategy to improve power supply, drive economic growth, and enhance service delivery.

‎The Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Prof. Dawud Sangodoyin, made this known during a press conference at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

‎He said the reform, anchored on a new regulatory framework, would allow multiple operators to participate across the electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, and distribution.

‎According to him, the state has already created an enabling environment for investment by segmenting its electricity market into industrial, institutional, residential, and underserved clusters to attract targeted solutions.

‎“We are deliberately opening up the electricity space to credible investors. Our framework allows them to study our electricity priority plan, conduct feasibility assessments, and deploy tailored solutions,” Sangodoyin said.

‎He disclosed that more than 30 potential investors had already been engaged, with at least one showing interest in hydroelectric power generation.

‎To strengthen oversight, the commissioner noted that the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission had been empowered as the primary authority to license operators and regulate activities within the sector.

‎“There is now a functional local regulator responsible for licensing, tariffs, and service delivery. Any operator in the electricity space within the state must comply with the commission’s guidelines,” he said.

‎He added that the commission had introduced a complaint resolution mechanism, promising to address issues raised by residents and businesses within 72 hours.

‎Despite the focus on market liberalisation, Sangodoyin acknowledged the significant gap in electricity supply, revealing that the state currently generates between 151 and 182 megawatts, far below the estimated 520 megawatts required for optimal performance.

‎To address this, he said the government had initiated short- and medium-term interventions, including a 12-megawatt independent gas-powered project expected to come on stream within two months.

‎He explained that the project would increase available capacity to about 194 megawatts in the short term, while longer-term plans aim to raise supply to nearly 300 megawatts by 2027.

‎As part of infrastructure improvements, the independent power project will prioritise electricity supply to critical government facilities in Ibadan, including the State Secretariat, Government House, and the judiciary, as well as street lighting networks.

‎“We are starting with critical infrastructure to improve efficiency in governance, while also exploring ways to extend benefits to surrounding communities through energy audits,” he said.

‎Sangodoyin further disclosed that the state had begun integrating renewable energy into its mix, with pilot solar-powered street lighting projects already showing promising results.

‎On policy alignment, he assured that the state’s electricity reforms were consistent with existing national laws, including the Electricity Act and the Petroleum Industry Act.

‎“We are working in harmony with federal regulations to ensure that our reforms deliver mutual benefits without conflict,” he said.

‎The commissioner also emphasised the need to avoid monopolies in the sector, noting that competition among multiple operators would lead to improved service delivery and more competitive pricing.

‎“Encouraging competition is key. It ensures efficiency, innovation, and better outcomes for consumers,” he added.

‎While acknowledging transitional challenges, particularly with existing distribution companies, Sangodoyin expressed optimism that ongoing stakeholder engagements would ensure a smooth reform process.

‎He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a sustainable electricity market that supports businesses, reduces operational costs, and improves the quality of life for residents.

Zone B Women, Youths endorse Ndarani, SAN for Niger South Senate, Pledge Cross-Zone mobilisation

    By Mohammed Baba Busu

A coalition of Women and Youth groups from Niger East (Zone B) Senatorial District on Sunday staged a massive solidarity gathering in Minna to formally declare their unwavering support for the senatorial ambition of Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani (SAN), for Niger South (Zone A) in the 2027 general elections.

The colourful event, held at the UK Bello in Minna, attracted participants from all the nine local government areas of Zone B, namely, Bosso, Chanchaga, Munya, Paikoro, Shiroro, Rafi, Gurara, Tafa and Suleja.

They turned out in large numbers to express confidence in the capacity, character, competence and philanthropic record of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The rally, which cut across religious, ethnic and political affiliations, was marked by songs of solidarity, testimonials and goodwill messages, all underscoring what speakers described as Ndarani’s consistent commitment to humanity, justice and grassroots development.

    Recognition Beyond Senatorial Boundaries
Speakers at the event emphasized that although Barrister Ndarani hails from Niger South (Zone A), his humanitarian footprint has significantly impacted communities in Zone B.

They cited several instances of his interventions in Niger East, including financial assistance to women and youth groups, scholarships to indigent students across tertiary institutions, empowerment of small-scale entrepreneurs, support for graduates seeking employment opportunities, and direct aid to widows, vulnerable persons and victims of hardship.

According to the coalition, many beneficiaries of his philanthropy in Zone B had no prior political or personal relationship with him, yet received assistance purely on humanitarian grounds.

Comrade Umar Mohammed Kuta, a leading member of the coalition, said the gathering became necessary to publicly appreciate and reciprocate Ndarani’s generosity and inclusive leadership style.

“We are not from his senatorial district, yet we have benefited immensely from his kindness and interventions. Leadership is about service and impact, not just geography.

Barrister Ndarani has demonstrated that he belongs to the entire Niger State,” Kuta stated.

He added that the endorsement was a voluntary show of gratitude and confidence in a man they believe has the experience and network to deliver quality representation at the National Assembly.

Mohammed Kuta further stressed that their decision to endorse Barrister Ndarani was also informed by his remarkable response to humanitarian emergencies.

He recalled that when flood ravaged parts of Mokwa, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria reportedly donated the sum of N30 million to support victims, describing the gesture as timely, sacrificial and deeply compassionate.

According to Mohammed Kuta, such an intervention demonstrated not only financial capacity but a genuine sense of responsibility toward the suffering of fellow citizens.

He added that beyond large-scale interventions, Ndarani has continued to provide targeted support to empower young people and women. “We are aware that he recently donated one hundred million naira to support students’ loan initiatives and women empowerment efforts.

Mohammed Kuta emphasized that what makes these acts even more commendable is that they are drawn from Ndarani’s personal, hard-earned resources as a legal practitioner, not from public office or government allocations.

“He is not occupying any elective position, yet he continues to give. That tells you the kind of heart he has. If he can do this as a private citizen, imagine what he will do with the mandate and platform of the Senate.

That is why we believe he deserves the support of Zone A and indeed the entire state,” he concluded.

Also speaking, Junaidu Yahaya from Paikoro Local Government Area described Ndarani as a dependable and accessible leader whose interventions have positively affected many families in Zone B.

“We have seen him pay school fees for students from our communities. We have seen him empower young people to start small businesses. We have seen him respond to appeals without discrimination.

That is the kind of Senator Niger South deserves,” Yahaya said.

In her remarks, Mrs. Mary Bitrus stressed that the endorsement transcended religious and ethnic considerations.

“His support has never been selective. He has assisted widows, women groups, Muslim and Christian communities alike.

Compassion has no religion, and that is why we are here to stand by him,” she noted.

Other speakers highlighted his quiet but consistent interventions during periods of economic hardship, noting that his contributions have complemented government efforts and brought relief to struggling families across Niger East.

The coalition assured that beyond the solidarity rally, members would actively mobilise their friends, relatives and political associates who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zone A to rally behind Ndarani’s aspiration.

They announced plans to embark on strategic grassroots consultations, advocacy visits and stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening support for his candidature ahead of party primaries and the general elections.

According to them, their resolve is anchored on gratitude and conviction that his emergence would foster stronger collaboration between Niger South and Niger East for the overall progress of the state.

The groups described Ndarani as a bridge-builder whose philanthropic outreach already reflects the kind of inclusive representation they expect at the Senate.

They urged the people of Zone A to support “a tested and trusted servant-leader” who, even before holding elective office, has shown capacity, compassion and commitment to the welfare of citizens beyond his immediate constituency.

The gathering concluded with special prayers for peace, unity and successful political outcomes in 2027, as well as chants of solidarity for the success of Barrister Mohammed Ndarani Mohammed (SAN)’s senatorial bid.

The coalition reaffirmed its determination to sustain the mobilisation drive in the months ahead, expressing optimism that with collective effort, cross-zonal cooperation and party unity, Ndarani would emerge victorious and provide impactful representation for Niger South in the National Assembly.
