LARIBIKUSI RULING HOUSE DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM SAMUEL ADEGBOLA’S RE-CORONATION AS ELERUWA OF ERUWA.

    By Adewale Owoade

‎The members of the Laribikusi Ruling House, has dissociated themselves from the purported “re-coronation” of Samuel Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan and signed, on behalf of Laribikusi Ruling House, Eruwa, by  PRINCE RAIMI SALAWU (Head, Omoni Quarter) PRINCE LAMIDI OJUOLAPE (Secretary, Ajao Quarter), PRINCE (DR) EMMANUEL O. ADEYEMI (Head, Sabi Quarter) and PRINCE ADEBAYO ADELEKE (Head, Agbaaragba Quarter)

‎According to the rulling house, this decision is based on the fact that Samuel Adegbola’s initial occupation of the throne for 21 years was deemed fraudulent, and his claim to be a rightful heir was rejected by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on November 29th, 2019.

They categorically stated that there is no Ajobo or Akindele royal lineage in the Eruwa Royal Family. The title “Ajobo Olurin I” assumed by Samuel Adegbola upon his return confirms the historical fact that his great-grandfather was a settler from Igbo-Ora.

“We want to make it clear that we are not party to any arrangement that seeks to impose a settler from Igbo-Ora on Eruwa town as our Oba. This action is an affront to the traditions and customs of Eruwa people, and we will not recognise or legitimise it in any way.

“Despite our efforts to inform the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde, and those in authority about the grand plan to return Samuel Adegbola to the throne, our concerns were ignored.

“We wrote open letters, petitions, and held press conferences to highlight the irregularities in the selection process.

‎”We will take all necessary steps to protect the interests of Eruwa town and its people and ensure that the traditional institutions are respected and preserved in accordance with our customs and traditions..”

‎They  urged the peace-loving people of Eruwa to maintain law and order and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.

We’ll support, digitise Olunloyo’s library, Makinde says

    By Adewale Owoade

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the state government would preserve and digitise the library of a late former governor of the state, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo and make it a tourist attraction centre.

Governor Makinde, who described the library as a treasure trove of knowledge capable of offering solutions to numerous challenges facing the country, said preserving the library is one of the ways of immortalising Dr Olunlolyo, who was the second elected governor of the old Oyo State comprising present day Oyo and Osun states.

The governor stated this while paying his last respect to the late Dr Olunloyo, at the lying -in-state and executive session organised in his honour by the state government and held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

He added that the state government would also commission the Omololu Olunloyo Leisure Park at Alakia-Airport Area of Ibadan, which was named after the revered statesman in 2023.

Recall that the state government equally named the 3 km Airport Road after the former governor.

Makinde eulogised the late former governor for being one of his go-to persons on how to solve the problems of the state.

He added that exploring the tourism potential of the library would also align with his administration’s focus on tourism development.

He said: “I have lost a partner. Sometimes, he would tell me how some problems were solved before my time in the state. When people look at me and wonder how come Oyo State is so peaceful during my tenure, they don’t know that I go to these leaders and they analyse things for me and leave me to take the best decisions for the state.

“We must give honour to whom it is due. This event is important; it is an avenue for us to give a befitting passage to an individual who gave a good part of his life to serve this state and country.

“There are two things I need to let this gathering know. One is the fact that the Omololu Olunloyo Park is ready for commissioning and we will open it soon. Two, in most of my discussions with Baba, there was no way we would talk and wouldn’t get to the issue of his library.

“So, I am making a public announcement now that the state would support the family to preserve and digitise that library.

“It is a library where we can practically find solutions to a whole lot of challenges we are still faced with currently. We must preserve the library and ensure that when people visit Oyo State, the library becomes a tourist centre that we can showcase.”

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, described Dr Olunloyo as a towering intellectual with a strong commitment to public service.

He said: “Today is a day of reflection on the life and time of Dr Omololu Olunloyo. Today does not call for grief, sorrow or lamentation.

“In reflecting, we must put into perspective his contributions to life, our society and the world at large.

“He was a towering intellectual who had a strong commitment to public service. He served our state at the highest level with distinction and rare brilliance.

“We believe that he has left enough for us to tap into in order for us to make a good life. We have lost a colossus whose footprint would remain etched on the sands of time.”

Speaking on behalf of the Olunloyo family, the first child of the deceased, Mrs Oluyemi Olunloyo-Buckner, described her late father as a politician of a rare genius and an exceptionally brilliant statesman whose contribution to Oyo State was huge.

She added that he was a man that gave his children identity, heritage and love.

Also in their separate orations, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima and the Acting Rector, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Dr Taiwo Lasisi, described Olunloyo as an embodiment of brilliance, with a profound commitment to public service.

The event had in attendance the wife of a former governor of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja; a former Deputy Governor and PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; former deputy governor, Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi; former Minister of Trades and Investment, Chief Mrs Onikepo Akande, CON, as well as Chairman and Co-Chairman of Oyo State Elders’ Council, Dr Saka Balogun and Elder Wole Oyelese.

Other government functionaries in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Olanike Adeyemo; Oyo State Exco Members; service commanders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and family members, among other dignitaries.

Gov Makinde Launches Oyo State Performance Delivery Compact, Seeks Ministerial Collaboration

    By Adewale Owoade.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has launched the State Performance Delivery Compact, a initiative aimed at building a lasting legacy by enhancing governance and service delivery in the state.

The governor made this known during his address at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), venue of the 2025 Mid-Term Leadership Retreat organised by the Oyo State Government, for the top government officials.

This initiative demonstrates Gov Makinde’s commitment to building a lasting legacy in Oyo State, prioritizing effective governance, economic growth and citizens’ well-being.

Makinde emphasised the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration that will guarantee good governance well beyond the tenure of this administration, stating that no single entity can build a legacy alone.

“We began this journey not merely with promises but with vision to shift from accelerated development of Oyo state, to sustainable transformation.

“A vision that says we do not only build for applause; we are building for impact.

“Finishing strong requires inter Ministerial collaboration, no single ministry, department or agency, can build a legacy. I don’t want to be remembered for constructing roads, but the institution that we are creating, that would guarantee good governance well beyond the tenure of this administration.

“Oyo state can set its own growth standard, one grounded in coordination not competition, so let us cooperate with ourselves, coordinate and deliver for our people.

“So, to formalize this, am announcing today, the launch of the legacy compact, Oyo state performance delivery compact.

“Using our commitment to measurable result, not activity. Under this system, each ministry, department and agency will identify 3 to 5 legacy deliverables they can realistically complete before 2027.

“The Oyo state legacy compact is not a slogan, it is a component, a path between us and the people we serve. to build a legacy that last, we must do few things.

“Prioritise completion, institutionalised what works, protect effective policies through legal framework and performance need budgeting.

“To build legacy we have to empower successors not sabotage them, because a true legacy is the one that outlived its architect.

“We are at a redefining point the foundation is solid, the vision is clear, the next 2 years must be about intentional delivery, inter Ministerial synergy and generational impact.

“Let us remember the legacy is not what you start it is what you finished and finished well, that is what a legacy is, so let posterity say of this government of this season that we came, we set the gaps and we closed those gaps,” Makinde said.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, said the mid-term retreat was organised for stakeholders in the government to assess its interventions in the areas of manpower development, infrastructural development, education, healthcare, agribusiness development and institutional legacies. • 2027: Will Shina Peller Stage a Comeback?

2027: Will Shina Peller Stage a Comeback?

2027: Will Shina Peller Stage a Comeback?
As Nigeria gears up for the pivotal 2027 general elections, the political landscape is vibrant with aspirations and ambitions. One figure who has emerged as both a hopeful candidate and a beacon of leadership is Hon. Shina Peller.
Hon. Shina Peller is not just a politician; he is a successful businessman turned politician who served in the ninth Nigerian House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023, representing the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency.
Peller, who is the Ayedero of Yorubaland, is widely known for his unwavering advocacy for youth representation in government. This has led to his honorary recognition as the Grand Commander of the Nigerian Youth (GCNY) and Life Patron of the Nigerian Youth by the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN).
Another thing Peller is known for is his constant call for the need to create a new functional system in Nigeria that will make the existing one obsolete. He always argue that the current system is faulty.
Also, Peller always speaks against political godfatherism which has become a norm in Nigerian politics.
Peller’s outspoken nature sometimes put him at odds with influential figures within his former political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). His candid criticism of the party, which he described as anti-people, stirred controversies.
While some influential people within the party considered his criticism absurd, many, particularly the masses, commended his bravery, courage and honesty.
As a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Peller successfully sponsored/moved some important bills/motion which include but not limited to:
    – The need to tackle scourge of rape and other sexual offenses against female child and women. This prompted the federal government of Nigeria to establish the country’s first ever Sexual Offense Register as contained in Peller’s prayers.
    – His bill on the need to strengthen National Orientation Agency for optimal performance was also noteworthy.
    – The last motion he moved as a member of the House of Representatives was the need to strengthen Nigeria’s Creative Industry. This subsequently led to the present government creating Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy.
In the spirit of honoring a campaign promise, Peller opted not to run for a second term in the House of Representatives in order to give room to the rotational agreement between the local governments within his constituency. Instead, he aimed for the Oyo North Senatorial District seat, a decision that saw him face an electoral defeat amid allegations of irregularities.
However, this setback did not deter his political ambitions. Now, as a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peller has publicly declared his intention to run for Senate again in 2027.
One of the key factors influencing Peller’s potential for a comeback is his undeniable street credibility. His popularity and acceptance extend beyond mere political rhetoric; they are rooted in genuine connections with the people.
Also, his strong relationship with Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, further solidifies his stance as a formidable candidate for the forthcoming election.
Shina Peller has never hidden his admiration for Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadeship style. It is evident that his loyalty to the governor is not in doubt, as he has consistently maintained at different public gatherings that Makinde is a visionary leader and most performing governor in the history of Oyo State.
Due to his close relationship with the governor, some believe that he may be Governor Makinde’s preferred PDP candidate for the next Oyo State gubernatorial election.
Peller’s ability to engage with constituents on a personal level enables him to genuinely understand their concerns and needs. This rapport transcends traditional political boundaries, making it easier for voters to relate to him.
Another noteworthy aspect of his leadership style is his unwavering dedication to youth empowerment. Through the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), Peller has trained thousands of Nigerian Youth across the country on leadership, governance, political organizing and mobilization, active citizenship, strategic communication and others.
LGI exists primarily to create and nurture a new generation of leaders that Nigeria and the world will be proud of. By equipping the next generation with the necessary skills, LGI is not only addressing immediate challenges but also laying the groundwork for sustainable development.
As Nigeria navigates complex socio-economic challenges, many citizens are searching for leaders who empathize with their struggles and can translate that empathy into action.
Peller’s unique attributes qualify him to be classified as one of those leaders that masses yearn for. If given the chance, he could very well usher in a new era of leadership where progress, inclusivity and empowerment reigns.
But will he be able to stage a triumphant comeback in 2027? Time, the electorate, and most importantly, God will tell.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin on Friday said that the 10th Assembly has firmly established itself as a dynamic and people-focused institution.

Ogundoyin said this while addressing the audience, which included governor Seyi Makinde during the second Anniversary of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly.

Ogundoyin said that in the last two years, this Assembly has remained proactive, people-driven, and result-oriented.

“We have passed 32 out of 34 bills, with the remaining two at the committee stage undergoing critical scrutiny.

“ These bills span essential sectors including education, health, economy, security, environment, infrastructure, social welfare, and governance,” he said.

“Beyond lawmaking, we have taken bold steps to ensure effective governance through legislative innovation.

“ One of our historic achievements is the establishment of the Post-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) Unit, making Oyo State House of Assembly the pioneer among State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria to institute a mechanism for evaluating the implementation and impact of laws passed by the legislature.

“This groundbreaking initiative underscores our commitment to ensuring that every law enacted truly serves its intended purpose and contributes meaningfully to the development of our state.

“We also recognize that a strong legislature must be an informed one.

“ To this end, we have facilitated capacity-building training at home and abroad for all Honorable Members covering areas such as appropriation oversight, constituency representation, and legislative impact assessment,” he said.

The speaker said that the state government has approved the recruitment of 181 new staff into the assembly, adding that the exercise would be strictly merit-based.

He , however, commended the synergy between the legislature and executive arm, crediting Makinde’s open-door approach.

“We have chosen partnership over partisanship, and the dividends are clear in the policies we have helped shape and the laws we’ve enacted.

“ Let me reiterate that our relationship and collaboration remain exemplary, and it is one of the key reasons we have recorded so much progress,” he said.

The speaker, however, called on his colleagues to rededicate themselves to the task ahead.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to delivering quality legislation, robust oversight, and responsive representation.

“We will continue upholding our constitutional duty with sincerity, diligence, and accountability.

“Let me remind us all that the next two years present even greater challenges, and we must rise to them with a stronger sense of duty and resolve.

“This House belongs to the people of Oyo State. Their hopes and voices shape our debates, and their future drives our resolve,” he said.

    By Adewale Owoade.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, has announced that the state’s agricultural programs have positively impacted tens of thousands of farmers.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing, Olaleye attributed the state’s agricultural success to Governor Seyi Makinde’s visionary leadership.

He said that Oyo State is the largest producer of cassava and poultry products in Nigeria, and that has attracted significant investments, including from the African Development Bank (AFDB).

“Our massive distribution of 65,000 bundles of cassava stems to 1,269 farmers, demonstrates our commitment to food security, with projections showing potential production of 214,143.75 tons of cassava tubers from 47,587.5 acres of newly planted farmland.

“The statistics we received from Ibarapa zone is that between 1st of December and 30th of May, people across Nigeria have moved out more than 11,000 tons of Cassava tuber out of Oyo State, that is about 450 trucks of Cassava taken out of Oyo State within the period of 6 months.

“These achievements represent a comprehensive approach to agricultural development that addresses every aspect of the value chain – from input supply and production support to processing, marketing, and capacity building.

“Our programs have directly impacted tens of thousands of farmers while building the infrastructure and institutional capacity needed for sustainable agricultural growth in Oyo State.

“The combination of technical services, infrastructure development, and human capital investment positions our state as a leader in agricultural innovation and food security in Nigeria, this is how far we have gone” Olaleye stated.

‎Earlier in her opening remark, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, encouraged newsmen to be objective and fair in their reportage.

Also in his welcome address, Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said that Gov. Makinde promised the People of Oyo State to take them from poverty to prosperity and he was elected because the people believed not just in the promises but also in his capacity to deliver on those promises.

“When a leader casts a vision, his team members catch the mission, the vision of taking the People of Oyo State from Poverty to Prosperity is implemented by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) through their various interventions.

“In other words, the MDAs are the channels through which the promises made by His Excellency are actualized. So, it is apposite that the MDAs give an account of their stewardship.

“These engagements will afford the Honourable Commissioners and Heads of Government Agencies and Departments the opportunity to give an account of their service to the people of Oyo State and explain how the administration’s activities are improving the lives of citizens. (NAN)

OYSMIDA DG visits Igbeti, calms fears over rock weathering

    By Adewale Owoade

The Director-General, Oyo State Solid Mineral Development Agency (OSMDA), Mr Abiodun Oni, has visited Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government to address concerns over a recent rock weathering incident.

Rock weathering is the natural process by which rocks break down or change over time due to exposure to environmental elements such as air, water, temperature changes, and biological activity.

Oni assured residents there was no immediate danger but advised them to avoid the site until it is declared safe by experts.

The incident, which occurred on June 7, caused panic in the community, prompting a swift response from the state government and local authorities.

Oni said preliminary findings showed that a portion of the rock gave way after being exposed to intense heat.

“From what we have seen, the rock was subjected to extreme heat and made a weak part of the rock come down.

“To the glory of God, we don’t have any casualty and this is one of the reasons why the governor sent us here to calm nerves down.

“We have reassured the people of the community that there is no danger but they should steer clear of the rock. This is because there may be a recurrence.

“This thing is better attended to by the local authorities that we have advised from the state. I have been in touch with the elected council chairman and the king of the town. We have also advised the people to stay away as much as they can.

“It is still more like an active system and we don’t want anybody to get hurt. So, I want to implore the people of the community and the farmers farming close to the rock to stay away for now,” he said.

In a related development, Vice Chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government, Adetoro Adegbola, said the council was working to erect a barricade to restrict access.

Adegbola spoke on behalf of the Chairman, Hon. Kazeem Olayanju.

The Onigbeti of Igbetiland, Oba (Engr.) Bashir Abioye, thanked the state government for its swift action and revealed that a team of experts had been mobilised to assess the situation.

“This incident also occurred last year and the one that just happened was the continuation of what happened last year. The government of Oyo State has taken the necessary steps to make sure that no life is lost.

“We have also asked the hunters and farmers that do use the rock to stop going there temporarily. The government has asked a team of experts to come and evaluate the rock and I believe that, with the capacity of the state government, the needful would be done, because we know that the lives of our people are important to them,” he said.
