    Northern Nigerians Peace group has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urgent reactions and concerned for using all ways to ensure the rescue of students of Government Secondary School Maga in Kebbi state.
    The group applauded President’s order to Minister of state, Mr Bello Matawalle to relocate to Kebbi state for effective mobilisation and monitoring of all the needed strategies in rescuing the abducted students and their Principal.
    This contained in a statement signed by the group Chairman, Dr Usman Aboki, and made available to the newsmen on Saturday in Sokoto.
    Group called on politicians to stop celebrating abductions of innocent children because of political differences or hatred on particular interest or personality.
    ” It is unfortunately, some persons due to political differences with government officials are now becoming so desperate to blackmail Mr President over his immediate action send his Minister of state Defence to coordinate and ensure the release of these innocent children.
    ” The same people who goes to media to insult Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit some few days ago to sympathize with Kebbi people.
    ” It’s a right direction for the Presidency to give a close mark on some known unscrupulous politicians that are playing politics with issue of insecurity, particularly Gov. Dauda Lawal and his cohorts,” he said.
    ” They are allegedly accused of hiring some negative attacks on President’s efforts of fighting insecurity in the North West,” Aboki said.
    According to him, some politicians engaged themselves in celebrating recent development of kidnappings and attacks by bandits and other criminal elements of the society across the nation.
    He condemed the writing negative views and mocking the gallant troops over the reports of such abductions particularly in the north west region due to politics.
    He further described the statement issued from Zamfara as unbecoming and lacks decorum over their unprintable words against President Tinubu decision to send order Minister of state Defense to relocate to Kebbi and monitor security situation and ensure that, those girls are rescued.
    He lamented that taking personal hatred and display same on the issue of national security is irresponsible, poorly bad and lacks reasons.
    While condemning the sponsors of the campaign of columny against the President’s decision on the ways to bring back the kidnapped victims home, we endorsed the action taken by Presidency.
    ” It is very sad situation to all Nigerians, because escalating of insecurity challenges will affect entire nation, and its not about personality.
    ” The attacks and kidnapping is nothing but creation of certain enemies of the country, who wants use such opportunities to destroy our well being, unity and progress.
    ” It’s definitely a coordinated attacks to portray the nation into bad name, painting a dommy picture about the nation, so as to destroy our common sense” Aboki added.

    Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State on Friday urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to make a positive impact on the people’s lives.
    He gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch C orientation exercise at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wamakko.
    Aliyu assured the corps members that his administration would prioritise their welfare and security throughout their service year in the state.
    He encouraged them to view Sokoto as fertile ground for upholding the ideals and objectives of the NYSC scheme.
    Represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Mr Mustapha Kofar-Marke, the governor warned corps members against cultism and other social vices.
    He praised the NYSC management for its role in guiding Nigerian youths in line with government policies and developmental goals.
    Aliyu noted that the NYSC has greatly contributed to national development through various sectors across the country.
    He emphasised the scheme’s importance as a unifying platform for youths of different ethnic, religious and academic backgrounds.
    He also commended the NYSC for promoting patriotism, hard work and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths.
    Aliyu highlighted the scheme’s role in driving socio-economic growth through community-based projects and initiatives.
    He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to corps members’ safety, calling on security agencies and community leaders to support them.
    The governor also reiterated his focus on youth empowerment through skill acquisition programmes to boost innovation and drive economic growth.
    NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Usman Yakubu-Yaro, urged corps members to maintain discipline and adapt to the camp’s structured environment.
    Yakubu-Yaro stated that the orientation programme was intended to prepare them physically and mentally for national service.
    The  Chairperson, NYSC Governing Board in Sokoto State, Hajia Hadiza Galadima, encouraged participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme for future self-reliance.
    Galadima who is the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of youth and spots development appreciated Gov. Aliyu for award for the renovation of the permanent orientation camp in the state.
    He expressed appreciation to Governor Aliyu and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, for their continued support of the scheme.
    The Chief Judge of the State, Justice Sa’aidu Sifawa, represented by Justice Muhammad Muhammad administered the oath of allegiance.

    A coalition of youth groups in Zamfara State has called on Governor Dauda Lawal to return to the state and focus on addressing the escalating security challenges following his recent expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


    The appeal was made on Wednesday by Hon. Maidamma Maigadaje, chairman of the Coalition for Peace and Stability in Zamfara, during an interview in Gusau.
    Maigadaje expressed concern that the governor’s attention to political matters may be diverting focus from pressing security issues.
    He emphasized that the 2027 election season remains distant, and urged Governor Lawal to concentrate on development, security enhancement, and improving social services, particularly in rural communities facing banditry, poverty, and limited access to healthcare.
    Maigadaje highlighted challenges faced by security agencies in coordinating with the state government and called for stronger support and engagement to ensure effective intelligence sharing and operations.
    The coalition also commended the efforts of troops under Operation Fantsan Yamma for sustaining security operations in areas affected by banditry, despite limited resources.
    Governor Lawal’s recent expulsion from the PDP was part of broader disciplinary actions taken by a faction of the party aligned with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

    The United Nations (UN) Women and the Sokoto State Government have called on community and religious leaders to lead the conversation against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Harmful Practices in the society.

    Ms A’isha Sani, Programme Officer for UN Women, made the appeal at a three-day Community Guideline Development on Harmful Practices and GBV on Wednesday in Bodinga local government area of Sokoto.

    Sani said their involvement would ensure good understanding toward creating a better society. ”We believe that religious leaders have a way of appealing to the consciousness of people.

    UN Women believes that religious leaders have vital roles to play. ”GBV happens everywhere, I believe it is easier to prevent something from happening than proffering solutions,” She said.

    Sani explained that the UN Women has identified the causes and the dangers of gender-based violence as well as how it could endanger humans.

    She underscored the importance of using religious provisions to correct some aspects of culture that were working against the interest and the well-being of our society.

    ” We have looked at various levels of violence and have resolved to deepen our conversations around these issues and be very open and frank.

    “We will use perspectives on this issue to correct our orientation about gender-based practices so that we do not oppress women and girls in our community,

    ” She said. Earlier, the Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs in Sokoto state, Hajia Hadiza Shagari, said the training would broaden the community leaders perceptions and sustain the achievements on GBV prevention campaigns.

    Shagari, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, said the era of silence culture about GBV had gone.

    “We understand that this is a menace that needs to be eradicated.

    This partnership with UN Women is going to yield desired results because religious, community leaders, youth groups and civil society organizations are here.

    ”These are the leaders that will get this message across, not just in terms of campaign, but proper implementation an engaging.

    ”We are expected to use our understanding to formulate proper practices that would checkmate GBV reoccurrences,” she said.

    The District Head of Bodinga, Alhaji Bello Abubakar, expressed appreciation over the efforts, stressing that it would surely harness proper understanding and ways to tackle GBV and other harmful practices.

    GBV Desk Officer, Mrs Zinatu Haruna, urged participants to build from their previous knowledge and engagement to come out with good suggestions in order to prevent GBV cases and other harmful practices in our communities.

    Haruna stressed the need for leaders to continue to play more active roles in curbing GBV and Harmful Practices.

    Newsmen reports that issues on early and forced marriage, harmful practices, female genital mutilation, forms sexual abuse, domestic violence, marital disputes, dangers of girls hawking and other abuses were discussed.

    A resident of Sokoto state on Wednesday expressed excitement over the appointment of the former NIWA Chairman, Alhaji Musa Adar, as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

    Aminu Umar Gada, described the appointment by President Bola Tinubu as “a bold, inspiring, and well-deserved national recognition.”

    Gada, who is Ajiyan Gada said Adar had reputation as a man whose public service career has consistently reflected integrity, discipline, and dedication to nation building.

    He said the people of Sokoto, particularly those who have followers of Adar’s political journey, received the news with joy and gratitude.

    He noted that the President’s decision has further strengthened their trust in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

    According to him, Adar’s track record at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has proof that he possesses the competence, foresight, and managerial character required to reposition NEITI and deepen transparency in the extractive industries.

    He added that the appointment has energized supporters across the state, many of whom consider it a personal victory for fairness, merit, and the recognition of loyal, hardworking technocrats from the Northwest.

    Gada emphasized that President Tinubu’s choice of Adar is not only a reward for excellence but also a strategic step toward strengthening institutional accountability within the nation’s revenue generating sectors.

    He added that supporters in the 23 local government areas would surely welcome the appointment as a “historic elevation,” and urged Adar to exercise his experience, and moral standing make him uniquely suited to lead NEITI at a crucial time for the nation.

    He praised the President for entrusting such a sensitive national assignment to a man widely respected for transparency, fairness, and bridge building across political and communal lines.

    Gada further stated that Adar represents a generation of leaders whose service is guided by humility, teamwork, and a commitment to national unity qualities that, according to him, will reflect strongly in his new role.

    He also encouraged the new Executive Secretary to approach the assignment with the courage and clarity that have defined his leadership over the years, adding that Sokoto State is solidly behind him.

    The Amalgamated Association of Fruits, Grains and Beverages Dealers have commended the Former Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle and present Defense Minister to Zamfara state for his visit to Zamfara state.

    This is contained in a statement signed by the group Chairman, Malam Hamisu Lawal ‘Yankuzo and issued to the newsmen on Saturday in Gusau.

    ‘Yankuzo said the visit have restored normalcy and enhanced businesses transactions in the metropolis.

    According to the statement, the Group Chairman addressed crowd of supporters in Gusau stressing that the two day working visit by the Minister had portrayed a glaring difference between his administration and the present Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stewardship.

    ‘Yankuzo explained that no person was molested as everybody had direct access to the Minister despite security men attached the his entourage.

    He said businesses have recorded immense boost at most items were sold off and traders resorted to outsourcing commodities from nearby markets in Rawayya, Tsafe, Magami,Kasuwar Daji and Bungudu to ensure abundance.

    ‘Yankuzo added that traders in Damba, Lalan and Sabon Fegi in Gusau metropolis have lowered the commodities prices as q way to usher and welcome the Minister adding that reduction have been complimented with increased patronage as well.

    ” During the Thursday and Friday Minister’s visit, traders recorded high patronage, recorded increased gain and harmonious interactions.

    ” We pray for Matawalle’s return as the Governor, because of increased people acceptance, qualitative stewardship that will further restore good governance and improved peoples wellbeing in Zamfara state,” ‘Yankuzo appealed.

    He highlighted that the group popularly called ” Tsayi da Kafafunsu” would continue to support Ex- Governor Matawalle and work toward his re-election in the future election for the betterment of citizens and infrastructural development in Zamfara state.
