Enugu Govt Assures NYSC Of Improved Water Availability, Utility In Orientation Camp

The Enugu State Government through Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of improved water availability and utility in orientation camp.

The General Manager of the CSDA, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to NYSC Enugu Secretariat on Friday.

According to Ani, the CSDA is here to reassure the NYSC of His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah’s commitment and efforts to provide social infrastructure such as water and lightning utility in NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu.

Ani noted that the governmental-agency and the NYSC management would explore ways of further enhancing the existing borehole by reticulating the water to ensure wider distribution across the camp.

He also pledged to strengthen the solar energy system powering the boreholes.

“The government objective is not merely to provide infrastructure but to ensure that such interventions function effectively and deliver lasting benefits to the intended beneficiaries,” he said.

Ani disclosed that technical personnel from CSDA would visit the camp to assess the capacity of the existing solar panels, pumps, other facilities and determine the appropriate solar solution required.

The CSDA boss noted that additional solar lightning for dark spots within the camp would also be considered as part of future interventions.

Earlier, the Head of the NYSC Enugu State Secretariat, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, appreciated the administration of Gov. Peter Mbah for its commitment to improving facilities at the orientation camp.

“NYSC is grateful in particularly for the provision of a borehole to address water needs of corps members, adequate statewide security in Enugu State, favourable infrastructure and serene environment for corps members and staff,” Awolola said.

She said that the camp, being the first NYSC camp in Nigeria, had experienced infrastructural challenges over the years.

Awolola noted that interventions such as the water and lightning projects were important steps towards creating a more conducive environment for corps members.

The discussion, however, revealed that while the existing boreholes had helped to address water challenges, more facilities are expected due to increase in the teeming population of corps members mobilised to the camp.
