Comrade Olamilekan, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade”, has reportedly been shot dead in Ife, Osun State. Ajagungbade was allegedly killed at Mayfair Garage in Ife during an incident reportedly linked to a dispute over the control of the motor park.
The incident involved Ajagungbade, Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle and the Chairman of Ife Mini-Bus, popularly known as Sibi happened on Saturday evening.
Ajagungbade was said to be a known associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and a member of the Accord Party in the state.
Alowonle and Sibi are also reportedly members of the Accord Party in Osun State. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Ajagungbade was also reportedly on the wanted list of the police before his death, although details of the case for which he was wanted were not immediately available.
The development comes amid reported tensions surrounding the control and activities of motor parks in the area.
Police authorities had yet to officially confirm the incident or provide details on the circumstances surrounding Ajagungbade’s reported killing as of press time.
Reacting to the incident, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke directed the state Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest those responsible for the killing and ensure that law and order are restored.
The governor further directed security agencies to restore normalcy across motor parks and other affected areas of the state.
“There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” Adeleke said in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday.
Adeleke also announced plans to issue an Executive Order formally establishing the Park Management System to regulate the management of motor parks and garages across Osun.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state,” the governor said.
He called on residents to remain calm, assuring them that security agencies had been directed to prevent further violence and sustain peace across the affected areas.
The governor said the latest measures were necessary to restore discipline and orderliness in the state’s motor parks following the reported violence.
Adeleke also warned that the government would not shield anyone found to have participated in the killing, regardless of their status.
“Law and order must be maintained,” he said.
