Abuja:  The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cleared Deleject Disposable Needles for use, saying they are safe and met applicable quality requirements.

Mr Fraden Bitrus, NAFDAC Director, Post-Marketing Surveillance, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

The conference was tagged: “Regulatory Clarification on Deleject Disposable Needle on Public Alert No. 042/2026.”

Bitrus said the public alert concerning the reported presence of whitish particulate matter in Deleject Disposable Needle Batch No. 240605 was uploaded on NAFDAC’s website in error.

He said the complaint that led to the alert was lodged by Pharm. Jiyah Dadi, whose pharmacy is located at No. 1, Aliyu Turaki, Off Isa Kaita Road, Malali, Kaduna.

“The complainant purchased the Deleject syringes in question from Zagbayi Pharmacy, Calabar Road, Off Kano Road, Kaduna.

“NAFDAC’s investigation of the manufacturing company, HMA, did not reveal any non-conformity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements,” Bitrus said.

He said the matter could therefore be linked to a supply chain challenge rather than a manufacturing defect.

According to him, the matter had undergone appropriate regulatory review and investigation and was satisfactorily resolved several months ago.

“There are currently no quality, safety or regulatory issues that necessitate publication of the alert regarding Deleject Disposable Needle products available in the market,” he said.

Bitrus said Deleject Disposable Needle products in distribution were in good and acceptable condition and met applicable quality requirements and regulatory expectations.

He reassured healthcare providers, distributors and the public that there was no evidence indicating any quality or safety risk associated with the products.

“The publication is regretted and should be ignored,” he said. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
