The Senate of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has appointed Prof. Anne Ebri Asuquo as Provost and Prof. Eyo Emmanuel Essien as Deputy Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies.
The appointments of Prof. Asuquo and Prof. Essien were approved by the University Senate at its 259th meeting held on October 2, 2026, in recognition of their track records of hard work, integrity and commitment to service.
According to separate letters signed by the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka I. Icha, the appointments are for an initial period of two years, with effect from April 13, 2026.
The letters states that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, expressed confidence in the appointees’ wealth of experience and charged them to deploy their expertise towards effective service delivery, the realization of the administration’s goals and the continued growth of the College.
In a related development, the University Governing Council has approved a three-month extension of the appointment of Dr. Kaiser William Etta as Director of Health Services.
The extension was approved at the Council’s 175th meeting held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following the expiration of his previous tenure.
A letter dated October 8, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Icha, stated that the extension took effect from October 7, 2026, and will terminate on January 6, 2027.
The letter commended Dr. Etta for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment, noting that his contributions have significantly impacted the University’s health services delivery.
It further explained that the extension is to ensure continuity in the effective management of the University’s health services and to support the advancement of medical sciences initiatives.
The Governing Council expressed confidence in Dr. Etta’s capacity to sustain the achievements recorded and to further justify the confidence reposed in him.
Relevant organs and officers of the University have been notified accordingly.
