The Acting Dean, School of Engineering Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. AYANGBEKUN Oluwafemi Jacob, has today added another remarkable academic achievement to his growing profile, successfully completing and defending a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Engineering at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

The latest feat gives Engr. Dr. Ayangbekun his second doctoral degree, having previously earned a PhD in Computer Science from Lead City University, further reinforcing his reputation as a scholar whose career exemplifies continuous learning, multidisciplinary expertise and commitment to technological advancement.

The milestone was celebrated as a significant achievement for the School of Engineering Technology and the entire Federal Polytechnic Ayede community, under the purposeful leadership of the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, whose administration continues to place premium value on staff development, academic excellence, research and institutional capacity building.

“Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, the Acting Rector, said: ‘This achievement is a confirmation of our commitment to academic excellence and staff development. We are proud of Dr. Ayangbekun and encourage all staff to pursue continuous learning that strengthens our institution and national development.’”

With the successful completion of the new PhD, Engr. Dr. Ayangbekun’s academic qualifications now span PhD Computer Engineering from LAUTECH; PhD Computer Science from Lead City University; MSc Computer Science from the University of Ibadan; and BTech Computer Engineering from LAUTECH.

Beyond his impressive academic credentials, the scholar has accumulated about two decades of teaching and research experience across university and polytechnic education, bringing substantial expertise to the development of students, academic programmes and institutional initiatives at Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

His research profile is equally remarkable, with 88 research papers published in reputable journals and conference proceedings. He has also presented research outputs within and outside Nigeria and authored two academic textbooks in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering.

His research interests cut across emerging and socially relevant areas, including Machine Learning, Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), Health Informatics, Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition—fields that are increasingly central to global technological transformation and the future of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

A Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Dr. Ayangbekun is also a member of several recognised professional bodies, including the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and Machine Intelligence Research and Development Initiative (MIRDI).

At Federal Polytechnic Ayede, he serves as a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering Technology, Acting Dean of the School of Engineering Technology and Member of the Governing Council representing the Congregation. He is also the Chairman of the ICT Development Committee and has served on several institutional committees, including as the immediate past Chairman of the Polytechnic Central Examination Committee (PCEC).

His latest academic accomplishment therefore comes against the backdrop of sustained contributions to teaching, research, administration and institutional development.

For the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, the achievement represents more than an individual academic victory; it reflects the calibre of human resources being nurtured within Federal Polytechnic Ayede and the institution’s determination to build a strong academic community capable of responding to the demands of a technology-driven world.

The Acting Rector’s administration has continued to encourage scholarship, professional development, research productivity and the acquisition of cutting-edge knowledge among members of staff, recognising that a strong institution is built not only with infrastructure, but also with highly competent and continually developing human capital.

The successful attainment of a second PhD by the Acting Dean is therefore a compelling addition to the growing academic credentials of Federal Polytechnic Ayede and another indication of the institution’s commitment to producing and retaining scholars with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

The Polytechnic community has consequently congratulated Engr. Dr. AYANGBEKUN Oluwafemi Jacob on the successful completion and defence of his second PhD, describing the achievement as a source of pride and inspiration to staff and students.

With PhD Computer Science and PhD Computer Engineering , Engr. Dr. Ayangbekun has once again demonstrated that in the pursuit of knowledge, excellence is not a destination—it is a continuous journey.

Federal Polytechnic Ayede, under the leadership of Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, remains committed to advancing that journey through scholarship, innovation, technology and excellence.
