SCAN Summit to tackle financing bottlenecks for indigenous shipowners
Lagos, Aug. 9, 2026, The Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) has begun arrangements for its 2026 Summit on indigenous shipowners’ financing challenges.
The high-level summit would hold on Oct. 29, 2026 at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
The theme is “Low-Risk Capital For Indigenous Shipowners: Overcoming Regulatory, Financial Bottlenecks”.
SCAN President, Moses Ebosele, said foreign operators control over 95 per cent of Nigeria’s import and export cargo.
Ebosele said indigenous shipowners capture only 4 to 5 per cent due to funding gaps and high interest rates.
He said the summit will bring together regulators, lenders and experts to bridge financing gaps for local operators.
Keynote will be delivered by Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, while former NIMASA DG, Dr Temisan Omatseye, will chair.
Expected guests include the Managing Director, Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Director General, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr Dayo Mobereola and Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Shippers’ Dr Pius Akutah.
Ebosele said panel discussions will produce recommendations to boost vessel ownership and strengthen Nigeria’s blue economy.
