NOA collaborates with Kwara Arts Council on revival of cultural heritage

The North Central Zone of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has collaborated with the Kwara Council on Arts and Culture on the revival of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
The Zonal Director, Dr Priscilla Gondoaluor during a working visit to the council on Monday in Ilorin, said the partnership was critical to work on the values of the nation.
Gondoalour said the council was needed by the NOA to have a renaissance because the nation has gone down in terms of values.
“Culture is the foundation of values and the anchor on which all else, particularly in Africa, rests on.
“Africa is a continent that draws all from culture. And if you see the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, everything that has to do with the roles and obligations of citizens is drawn based on culture.
“But our young persons have strayed dramatically, and it has affected every and all aspects of this nation.
“And so it is the reactivation of the values that we have cherished over time, upon which the Constitution itself was drawn.
“So, we need this council to help us in the revitalisation of our values and cultures because the activities of this organization speak for itself, it is self-campaigning and speaks to the fabric of the conscience of the citizens,” she said.
The Zonal Director added that the activities of the council was the social version of what medical doctors do.
Secretary of the Council, Mr Jamiu Aliu said there was the need for cultural reorientation because the nation’s cultural heritage was going into extinction
“Kwara Arts Council is saddled with the primary mandate of preserving, reviving, and developing our cultural values.
“And the NOA as a strategic partner are saddled with the primary responsibility of propagating government activities and programs, to instill discipline, to harmonize unity among the different cultural groups that we have in Nigeria.
“So, we will be collaborating as a change agent of culture to educate the people and to sensitize them because we all know that our cultural heritage is going to extinction,” he said.
