CP Giwa urges residents, personnel to imbibe culture of walking

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has urged residents and personnel of police to imbibe culture of walking to keep fit, be mentally alert and remain healthy.

Giwa gave the advice on Tuesday in Enugu as he led officers and men of the Police Command in Enugu State on a walkathon across major roads within Enugu metropolis for about two hours.

The commissioner said that the walkathon was In furtherance of activities outlined for the National Police Day 2026.

He emphasised the importance of walking as part of physical exercise for human health and fitness, adding that daily walking activities, whether planned or casual, would strengthen one’s health.

Giwa assured the personnel that walkathons and similar fitness activities would be made an integral part of the command’s social and wellness initiatives.

The commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for the well-planned activities lined up to mark the National Police Day 2026.

The leadership of the Enugu State Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) participated in the exercise.

The walking exercise (walkathon), which was the activity slated for Day three of the celebration, was also held simultaneously in Nsukka and Udenu Area Commands, with members of the public actively participating.

Meanwhile, the National Police Day 2026 celebration continues on April 1, with sensitisation campaigns on election security and electoral offences, as well as safe driving practices and adherence to traffic regulations, across the Command’s Area Commands and Divisions.
