FLOWERBUDNEWS: It was a colourful celebration as workers across various sectors converged at Fakunle High School, Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to mark the 2025 Workers’ Day.
This year’s celebration stood out for the overwhelming show of solidarity and affection towards the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, widely celebrated as a friend of workers. The workers applauded the Governor’s unwavering commitment to their welfare, which they noted has remained a top priority of his administration.
In his address, Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s resolve to enhance the living and working conditions of the state workforce. He assured workers of improved welfare packages, prompt promotion exercises, and other incentives aimed at boosting morale and productivity.
“I empathize with all workers on the high cost of living in the country. The economic situation has not been easy for the citizenry. We feel your pains as a government that remains committed to your welfare at all costs,” the Governor stated.
He further explained that the Osun State Government has been working closely with the Federal Government to mitigate the impact of economic hardship on citizens.
“As a matter of policy, we have gone out of our way to support federal economic reforms that aim to ease the burden on our people. While we are not borrowing to fund governance, we have reduced the inherited state debt by over 40 percent. The Debt Management Office confirmed this in its recent reports,” he said.
The celebration featured energetic processions from various workers’ unions including the Nigerian Labour Union, Trade Union Congress. The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) staged a remarkable march led by its State President, Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, alongside the Chairman of the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs), Dr Adedapo Adewale.
