Shagari hails Tinubu’s campaign Flag-Off, cites infrastructure projects as booster to reelection

Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, former Minister of Water Resources and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu, on the successful presidential campaign flag-off held in Kaduna State.

Shagari also congratulated the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Northern governors and party faithfuls.

This is contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by his media aide, Malam Musa Ubandawaki in Sokoto.

Shagari described the event as a significant political gathering that demonstrated the APC’s organisational strength, unity and determination to mobilise widespread support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the massive turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and grassroots mobilisers from different parts of Northern Nigeria underscored the importance of the region in the country’s political landscape and the party’s determination to consolidate its electoral base ahead of the forthcoming presidential poll.

The former deputy governor commended the APC leadership, Northern governors and other party stakeholders for their contributions to the successful organisation of the event, stressing that sustained cooperation, internal cohesion and effective communication with citizens would be essential to achieving the party’s political objectives.

According to him, the enthusiasm displayed by party supporters at the Kaduna gathering reflected their expectations of the Tinubu administration and the need to sustain policies and programmes capable of addressing the country’s developmental challenges.

He expressed optimism that President Tinubu would secure substantial support from Northern voters in the 2027 presidential election, while urging the Federal Government to strengthen its engagement with Nigerians and ensure that its policies translate into measurable improvements in their living conditions.

Shagari also congratulated President Tinubu on the commissioning of the Kaduna–Abuja dual carriageway, describing the project as a significant infrastructure achievement with the potential to improve connectivity, facilitate commercial activities and reduce the difficulties experienced by motorists travelling between Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the completion of strategic infrastructure especially Kaduna- Abuja road project remained critical to national development, particularly in a country where the movement of agricultural produce, manufactured goods, passengers and essential services depended heavily on an efficient transportation network.

“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the Kaduna–Abuja road project and the efforts made to improve critical infrastructure across the country. A functional road network is essential to economic growth because it facilitates the movement of people, goods and services while reducing the difficulties faced by commuters and businesses,” Shagari said.

He maintained that sustained investment in roads, transportation and other public infrastructure would strengthen economic activities, create employment opportunities and improve the ease of doing business, particularly for small-scale traders, transport operators, farmers and other economic players.

The former minister urged the Federal Government to sustain the pace of infrastructure development while giving adequate attention to security, economic stability, employment generation and social protection, noting that the long-term success of any administration depended on its ability to deliver tangible benefits to the people.

He further expressed confidence that a second term for President Tinubu would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects, strengthen existing reforms and pursue additional development initiatives capable of addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.

Shagari, however, emphasised that political support must be reinforced by responsive leadership, transparency, accountability and continuous engagement with citizens, adding that Nigerians expected governance to produce visible improvements in their livelihoods.

He urged northerners to vote massively for the president, for continuety and national development.

Turning to developments in Sokoto State, the former deputy governor commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, PhD, for what he described as his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, social welfare, human capital development and the implementation of policies aimed at improving the lives of the people of the state.
