Maulud Nobiy: Clerics urge Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s life
August. 25, 2026 Some Islamic clerics have urged Muslims nationwide to emulate the exemplary life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad as they celebrate His birth.
The clerics made the call in separate interviews on Tuesday in Lagos to commemorate Maulud Nobiy
Mudiru Abd-Ganiyi Sowogbola, a cleric at Markazu-N-Nuril-Ilahi, Ikorodu, urged Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s life by upholding honesty, justice and compassion in their daily dealings.
Sowogbola said the Prophet’s leadership style remained relevant, noting that his conduct as a teacher, father and guide offered valuable lessons for national unity and development.
He called on Nigerians to imbibe the Prophet’s virtues of tolerance and service to humanity, saying such values could help address current social and economic challenges.
Sowogbola said Nigerians should draw lessons from the Prophet’s life to improve society, strengthen unity and promote peace, both as Muslims and as citizens of one nation.
Another cleric, Alhaji Ahmad, Imam of Al-Istijaabah Al-Adabiyyah Central Mosque, Arida Branch, Ikotun, urged Muslims to promote peace, love and harmony among Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation.
According to Ahmad, Prophet Muhammad coexisted peacefully with Christians and Jews in Medina, and urged Muslims to emulate that example in relating with people of other faiths.
He said Nigerians should see themselves as one, and stressed that Muslims must emulate the Prophet’s good conduct and morals not just during Maulud Nabiy, but in their daily lives.
A Muslim scholar and Arabic teacher, Komorudeen Adesanya, said the significance of the celebration extended beyond Muslims.
He noted that Prophet Muhammad’s lifestyle remained an example for all humanity to learn from, citing the Qur’an’s description of the Prophet as an exemplary model in character, leadership and conduct.
Adesanya described the Prophet as a teacher, father, leader and guide, saying His life was a complete school from which humanity could learn.
He urged Nigerian leaders to study the Prophet’s leadership qualities, noting that his guidance was based not on force but on teaching, wisdom and divine revelation.
Miss Aisha Cole and Miss Aliya Cole said the purpose of Maulud Nabiy was to remember the prophet’s contributions, particularly his trustworthiness, honesty, and good leadership qualities.
They noted that reflecting on the prophet’s life should also strengthen unity among muslims and encourage them to uphold values that promote peace and mutual respect in society.
For Mr Mustapha Osuala,Muslims must teach themselves and others about Islam and the love of the Prophet.
Osuala noted that the Prophet described His followers as the best of mankind, and charged believers to live by His teachings and bequeath them to future generations.
He emphasised that true followership required adherence to the Prophet’s teachings and character.
Another Muslim, Abd-Molik Adebayo, stressed the need for Muslims to know and uphold what is good and right, saying the Prophet was sent to guide humanity away from evil and toward righteousness.
He also said Muslims should observe regular prayers and constantly remember the Prophet to keep his legacy alive in their daily lives.
