Osun 2026: Adeleke takes early lead as INEC announces results

Osogbo, Aug. 16, 2026 (NAN) The candidate of the Accord Party, Gov. Ademola Adeleke, has taken an early lead in the Osun governorship election, according to results announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A review of results uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed Adeleke ahead of his major challengers.

They are the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam.

As of the time of filing this report, results from 25 of the state’s 30 local government areas had been announced by the respective Returning Officers.

The results showed Adeleke leading with 431,760 votes, followed by Oyebamiji with 364,426 votes, while Salaam had 10,574 votes.

Adeleke recorded victories in Osogbo, Oriade, Iwo, Ede South, Ede North, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Egbedore and several other local government areas.

In Osogbo Local Government Area, Adeleke polled 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474 votes, while Salaam scored 1,503 votes.

In Ede North, Adeleke secured 35,427 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 10,283 votes, while Salaam scored 307 votes.

Adeleke also won Ede South with 26,188 votes, against Oyebamiji’s 6,219 and Salaam’s 390 votes.

In Ife East, Adeleke polled 27,201 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 18,600 and Salaam 935 votes.

Similarly, in Ife Central, Adeleke secured 21,171 votes against Oyebamiji’s 15,913 votes and Salaam 747 votes.

In Oriade, Adeleke polled 21,343 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 14,863 and Salaam 423 votes.

Adeleke also won Iwo Local Government Area with 27,085 votes against Oyebamiji’s 19,660 votes, while Salaam polled 588 votes.

In Irepodun, however, Oyebamiji led with 15,713 votes against Adeleke’s 14,504 votes, while Salaam scored 249 votes.

Oyebamiji also won Ilesa East with 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280 votes, while Salaam polled 504 votes.

In Boripe, Oyebamiji polled 19,963 votes to defeat Adeleke, who scored 12,448 votes, while Salaam had 379 votes.

The APC candidate also won Irewole with 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934 votes, while Salaam scored 275 votes.

Oyebamiji won Atakumosa East with 9,936 votes against Adeleke’s 7,872 votes and Salaam’s 333 votes, while he also led in Atakumosa West with 10,037 votes against Adeleke’s 7,479 votes.

Adeleke won Boluwaduro with 7,118 votes against Oyebamiji’s 7,050 votes, while Salaam scored 179 votes.

He also won Ifedayo with 7,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 6,836 votes and Salaam’s 115 votes.

In Ilesa West, Adeleke polled 16,196 votes against Oyebamiji’s 12,756 votes, while Salaam scored 673 votes.

Adeleke also won Ifelodun with 21,107 votes against Oyebamiji’s 18,396 votes and Salaam’s 509 votes.

In Odo Otin, Adeleke secured 18,003 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 15,435 and Salaam 377 votes.

He also won Ila with 16,211 votes against Oyebamiji’s 12,934 votes and Salaam’s 259 votes.

In Ayedire, Adeleke polled 11,073 votes against Oyebamiji’s 9,910 votes, while Salaam scored 148 votes.

Adeleke won Egbedore with 19,278 votes against Oyebamiji’s 11,194 votes and Salaam’s 363 votes.

He also led in Ayedaade with 16,681 votes against Oyebamiji’s 15,719 votes and Salaam’s 331 votes.

  • The remaining five local government areas results are expected to be announced by the State Collation Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as the collation continues.
