Governors Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State on Friday met with former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, as part of last-minute consultations ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
The meeting was disclosed in a statement by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.
According to the statement, the visit was part of strategic engagements by the two All Progressives Congress, APC, governors with key stakeholders as the party intensifies efforts to secure victory for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
During the meeting, the governors discussed strategies for delivering victory for the APC candidate and urged Omisore to deploy his political network and influence in support of Oyebamiji.
The governors described Saturday’s election as one of the most consequential in the political history of the state, urging party stakeholders to put past disagreements aside and prioritise the collective interest of the APC.
They also appealed to Omisore and other stakeholders to support the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the reforms had strengthened the development capacity of states across the country.
The governors maintained that Osun could not afford to remain outside what they described as the progressive mainstream.
Responding, Omisore thanked the governors for the visit and pledged his commitment to the success of the APC and the candidacy of Oyebamiji.
“I want to thank the two governors for coming to see me and for the honour they have done me. I remain committed to the success of our party and to the emergence of our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, as the next Governor of Osun State,” he said.
The former APC National Secretary said past disagreements had been set aside, adding that his priority was now the victory of the party and the progress of Osun State.
Whatever disagreements we had in the past are effectively behind us. What matters now is the victory of the APC and the progress of Osun State. I am fully committed to this cause,” he said.
Omisore further disclosed that he had activated his political structure across the state to mobilise support for Oyebamiji, describing Saturday’s election as a “must-win” for the party.
“I have activated my political structure. For us, tomorrow’s election is a must-win. I am very optimistic about our chances because the people of Osun are progressive-minded. We are going into this election with confidence, unity and a clear determination to deliver victory for Bola Oyebamiji and the APC,” he said.
