A section of the newly commissioned LAMECO Flyover in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has developed cracks following a prolonged rainfall that lasted for several hours between Thursday and Friday.
The 672-metre flyover, commissioned by Governor Ademola Adeleke on July 1 and opened for public use, recorded a noticeable depression on one section of the bridge after the downpour.
In a viral video obtained, the flyover showed visible cracks and a sunken asphalt surface on one lane of the bridge, forcing motorists to slow down while passing through the affected section.
It was gathered that the Security personnel later restricted access to the damaged area as operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to the bridge to prevent entry and exit while monitoring the situation.
Reacting to the incident, the Osun Accord Party alleged that it had received credible reports suggesting a pattern of vandalisation targeting public infrastructure executed by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement signed by the Osun Accord Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the party alleged that the acts were not ordinary criminal activities but appeared to be part of a calculated attempt by desperate elements in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine and discredit the achievements of the current administration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The party claimed that those behind the alleged acts had resorted to destroying projects executed by the government after failing to match the administration’s performance.
Accord condemned what it described as acts of sabotage, insisting that public infrastructure belongs to the people of Osun State and not to any political party.
The party maintained that the destruction of roads, public facilities, streetlights and other government assets amounted to an attack on the collective interest of residents and would not stop Governor Adeleke from delivering democratic dividends across the state.
It called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible regardless of political affiliation and ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The party also urged residents, community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around government projects to security agencies.
Accord further stated that the people of Osun had witnessed what it described as unprecedented infrastructural development under Governor Adeleke and insisted that no politically motivated act of vandalism would erase the administration’s achievements or derail its commitment to the development of the state.
The party added that, as the ruling party, it would ensure proper surveillance of government projects by setting up a monitoring team, while disclosing that the Ministry of Works had commenced inspection of the affected site to determine the extent of what it described as sabotage
