Abuja FLOWERBUDNEWS: Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub has declared that the continuing successful operation of the TAC Scheme is a global demonstration of Nigeria’s selfless commitment to PanAfricansm
RT -Hon. Yakub Buba stated this at a ceremony in Abuja,vMonday, where NTAC received 11 Volunteers that had completed their 2-year service in The Gambia, a statement by Nkem Anyata-Lafia, Special Assistant to the NTAC DG on Media and Publicity, disclosed.
The NTAC DG expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the achievements the Agency had continued to record since the President came into office following his victory at the 2023 polls.
The former federal lawmaker noted that President Tinubu’s personal credentials for capacity development, even before becoming President, had driven the nation’s current commitment to South-South Cooperation and other international development cooperation initiatives NTAC is currently midwifing.
He reaffirmed that NTAC remained ‘:a key instrument of Nigeria’s soft power diplomacy, deploying skilled professionals to African, Caribbean and Pacific countries to promote technical cooperation, capacity building and sustainable development,.”
Yakub Buba stressed that the commitment by the Federal Government in spite of its own challenges, was ”a labour of love Nigeria has to bear for the development of all black people across the globe.”
Earlier, while presenting the returning Volunteers to the DG for their honour parade, the Director of Programmes at NTAC, Ambassador Bello A. Jaye, commended the Director-General and Management of the Agency for their consistent support.
He noted that the conducive environment provided throughout the assignment contributed greatly to the volunteers’ success.
Responding on behalf of the team, Engr. Oyetunji A. Akinlabi ,expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the impact of the TAC Scheme across the world.
He also availed himself of the opportunity provided by the session to convey appreciation to the NTAC Management for its unwavering support, disclosing that the Volunteers recorded notable achievements in higher education, judicial development, research, planning and public policy in The Gambia.
Furthermore, he informed that the returning team developed a University Policy and Conditions of Service for the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) and contributed to the formulation of The Gambia’s National Research Policy Framework.
They also supported reforms in student financing, research administration and other strategic sectors.
“We carried Nigeria’s mission and delivered. We impacted lives, strengthened institutions and demonstrated that Nigeria remains a dependable development partner. The people of The Gambia continue to appreciate the contributions of Nigeria in all of these,” he emphasized.
The ceremony featured the presentation of Certificates of Service to the returning Volunteers.
It marked the successful completion of their foreign assignment and ,again, reinforced NTAC’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives through technical assistance, knowledge exchange, capacity building and human capital development across Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific Regions.
