The Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primaries Reconciliation Committee has commenced consultations with aggrieved governorship aspirants as part of efforts to foster unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee, set up by the Oyo State APC, said it met with five governorship aspirants—Engr. Rauf Aderemi Olaniran, Prince Asatola Ashanke, Dr. Ololade Usman Bakare, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao and Dr. Ayobami Lam Adesina—on July 8 and July 10, 2026.
It noted that one or two other aspirants, particularly Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, had already aligned with the party’s governorship candidate.
According to a statement jointly signed by the committee’s Co-Chairmen, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, the meetings focused on issues arising from the party’s governorship primary election.
The statement said the aspirants expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primary, raising concerns over both the process and the outcome while urging the committee to address the issues in the interest of party unity.
It added that the aspirants pledged to continue engaging constructively with the committee to explore practical ways of achieving reconciliation, unity and stronger cooperation within the party.
The committee assured the aspirants that it would handle all submissions with sincerity, transparency and objectivity.
According to the statement, the aspirants also unanimously agreed to honour any invitation to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should such a meeting become necessary as part of the reconciliation process.
The committee said it would continue consultations with governorship aspirants who were unable to attend the initial meetings, as well as other key stakeholders considered vital to achieving lasting reconciliation.
It added that it would also engage the appropriate leadership of the party and convey the positions and concerns of the aspirants to the APC national leadership, including President Tinubu, in the interest of peace, unity and progress within the party.
