Counter-terrorism expert Dr. Seyi Adebayo has said the security operation that led to the rescue of the abducted Oriire pupils, teachers, and principal in Oyo State inflicted significant losses on the kidnappers, despite casualties suffered by the security forces.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, on Friday, 10 July, 2026, while reacting to the rescue mission, Adebayo said personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Armed Forces, and other security agencies carried out a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the neutralisation of others involved in the abduction.
Adebayo said, “We lost a policeman and soldiers but we arrested 8 and neutralized others and none of them escaped.”
According to the security expert, the outcome of the operation underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations in tackling kidnapping and organised criminal networks.
He acknowledged the sacrifice of the security personnel who lost their lives, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty while working to secure the release of the victims.
The rescue operation brought an end to the ordeal of the abducted Oriire pupils, teachers, and principal, who were taken by kidnappers in Oyo State.
The successful mission was welcomed by many Nigerians, with families of the victims expressing relief over the safe return of their loved ones.
