The ancient city of Iba, Osun State, recently pulsated with a fusion of rich cultural heritage and academic brilliance as the community celebrated the 10th anniversary of the coronation of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Adekunle Adeogun-Okunoye Oyedeji II. The week-long milestone, which underscored the monarch’s commitment to bridging traditional values with modern global development, culminated in a prestigious recognition of Oluwaseun Christopher OWOJORI, who was presented with an Award of Excellence for his significant contributions to the community.

A Decade of Transformative Monarchy
Oba (Prof.) Adekunle Adeogun-Okunoye Oyedeji II, a distinguished Professor of ICT and Community Development at ICT University, Yaounde, and an Associate Professor of Business Analytics at Xavier University, USA, has redefined the role of traditional leadership since his ascension in 2016. Throughout his tenure, he has championed a “participatory governance” model, utilizing committees focused on education, health, and agriculture to foster socio-economic growth.
During the anniversary lecture, themed “Old Crowns, New Worlds: Obas and the Future of Indigenous Leadership in Yorubaland,” the monarch emphasized that the progress witnessed in Iba over the past decade is a direct result of the collaboration between the throne and its dedicated citizens.
Recognition of Excellence

The grand finale of the anniversary celebrations featured the investiture of Mr. Oluwaseun Christopher OWOJORI. Presenting the award on behalf of the Eburu-in-Council, the monarch lauded OWOJORI as a “true son of Iba.” The citation, read by Mr. Segun Fadairo, highlighted OWOJORI’s steadfast loyalty, humanitarian efforts, and unwavering support for the palace’s developmental initiatives.
The Eburu noted that OWOJORI’s work exemplifies the progressive, disciplined, and community-oriented values that define his reign.
”I am deeply humbled by this recognition from Kabiyesi and the Council of Chiefs,” OWOJORI remarked during his acceptance. “Kabiyesi’s life is a masterclass in how one can remain deeply rooted in our rich culture while simultaneously excelling in the global arena. I dedicate this award to the youth of Iba and urge them to take up the mantle of service for the development of our land.”
A Blueprint for Future Leadership
The ceremony was attended by high chiefs, community leaders, and members of the Network of Kings from the Osun countryside. Fellow monarchs at the event praised the Eburu as a visionary leader who has successfully harmonized traditional institutions with contemporary intellectual rigor.

As the 10th-anniversary celebrations conclude, the recognition of OWOJORI serves as a clear signal of the Eburu’s dedication to fostering a new generation of community-focused leaders. For Iba, this milestone is not merely a celebration of the past decade but a springboard for a future built on collective intelligence, inclusive leadership, and a steadfast commitment to progress.
