ON RAMPAGE IN OSUN, Accuse of Sporadic Shooting at Residents
Gun-wielding political thugs associated with the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, were on rampage on Tuesday in Osogbo, the state capital, firing live shots at residents and motorists in a daring show of terror.
The assailants who were in a convoy of six branded Sienna buses of AMBO by Ajisope, began shooting directly at people from Akoda through to Oke-Fia in Osogbo, causing residents and motorists to scamper for safety.
At Owode-Ede, the gun-wielding thugs numbering more than twenty, led by a notorious political thug, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, reportedly recorded their first casualty as a trader hit by a bullet died on the spot.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the assailants, escorted by police officers, visibly targeted people wearing Accord face caps or anything that suggested support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a video circulating online, one of the victims receiving treatment for gunshot injuries specifically alleged that APC thugs and AMBO supporters were responsible for the attack and the shooting that left him wounded.
As at the time of writing this report, no fewer than three people have sustained life-threatening injuries from bullet wounds and are receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals, aside from the one confirmed death. Several others who sustained varying degrees of injuries are also receiving medical attention.
“We hereby condemn this attack as a dangerous escalation of political violence and a direct threat to democracy, public peace and the safety of innocent citizens.
“We call on the Inspector General of Police to immediately order a thorough investigation into these attacks, identify all those involved, regardless of their political affiliations, and ensure that they are brought to justice without delay.
“We also call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rise above partisan/family considerations and urgently call former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to order before their supporters plunge Osun State into avoidable chaos and bloodshed.
“No election is worth the life of any citizen. Political actors must conduct themselves within the bounds of the law and democratic decency. We urge security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further breakdown of law and order and reassure residents of their safety.”
