Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Yusuff Lasun has said that the House would reconvene either Tuesday or Wednesday next week to consider the virement request of N242 billon sent by President Muhammad Buhari to the National Assembly for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

The Deputy Speaker made the disclose during a press briefing at the House Press Corps with members of the All Progressives Congress Caucus in the House in attendance.

Lasun disclosed that the likelihood of the reconvening of the House despite its being on what he called ‘lawful recess’ was as a fallout of a meeting held between the National Assembly Leadership and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)Prof Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday.

He said ” the executive has proposed a virement, the House will likely reconvene on Tuesday or Wednesday next week”.

The lawmaker also condemned the blockade of the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Security DSS on Tuesday August 7, 2018 and commended the action taken by the Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who immediately sacked the Director-General of the secret police Mr. Lawal Daura.

Lasun added that the All Progressives Congress APC is still the majority party in both chambers of the National Assembly.

Fielding questions from newsmen on whether they APC Caucus is dissociating itself from the Parliamentary Support Gruop-a splinter group within the House, he said that the APC in the House is one and still intact.

Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has appealed to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP colleagues and the general public not to use the blockade of the apex parliament by the DSS to malign the party.

Gbajabimila who is also the APC Caucus leader said that it was wrong to use the blockade of the apex legislative house by of the DSS to malign President Muhammad Buhari and the APC.

He added that that as a party, they would order an investigation into the matter with a view to determining who did what and for what reasons.
